A fragment of a cast copper alloy trumpet brooch, comprising the incomplete head and part of the bow, of early Roman date (c. AD 75-175). The lower bow, spring and pin are missing. The brooch's head is sub-circular in plan. The bow is curving with a debased acanthus moulding at the mid-point. The rest of the bow has broken off beside the acanthus moulding.
Dimensions: length 30.37mm, width of head 8.7mm, width of acanthus moulding 9.08mm, thickness 11.91mm. Weight 7.63g.

An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester Trumpet brooch, dating to the Roman period, between AD 43 – 200 (length: 41.5mm; width at head: 15mm; thickness/ depth: 21mm; weight: 16.5g).
At the top of the D-sectioned brooch, the sub oval head is mostly complete with Celtic-style motif moulded decoration visible, comprising of worn curved ridges either side of a slightly raised central ridge down the length of the head. A cast copper alloy T-shape brooch of early Roman date. The brooch measures 40.7mm in length, 22mm in width and weighs 9.6g. The cylindrical wings conceal the axis bar for the (missing) hinged pin. Both ends of the wings are damaged. On the crest of the bow is the stub of a loop. The bow projects forwards for c. 15mm, then the angle changes and becomes more vertical. An incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester Dolphin brooch, dating to the 1st/ 2nd century, between AD 43 - 200 (length: 38.5mm; width at wings: 21.5mm; thickness/ depth: 15mm; weight: 8.9g).
The brooch is T-shaped in plan and most D-shaped in section. The semi-cylindrical wings (length of wing at either side of head: 5.5mm) are undecorated with the iron axis bar visible at either side. Ceramic spindle whorl diameter 31mm, height 17mm, weight 14.23g. The artefact is conical shaped with slightly convex sides, there are four concentric lines on the top surface and two on the underside. 10mm in diameter in the centre, light grey fabric.
The ceramic used for the spindle whorl is similar to the fabric of grey were vessels from the Roman Period, therefore a roman date is ascribed.
