A sherd of a South-Western (Glastonbury) type ware bowl or jar of middle to late Iron Age date. The reduced fabric contains moderate sub-angular burnt flint (up to 3mm). 2 pieces of very highly vitrified clay. They are both broken on 3 edges and join together to form one piece. The clay is a dark reddish brown. One piece is triangular whilst the other is sub-rectangular. The clay has quite a lot of inclusions in, pieces of stone (quartz) about 2mm in size. The high level of vitrification suggests they were used in a high temperature industrial activity such as metalworking or glass working. A rim sherd probably originating from a jar type container of Iron Age date. The fabric is very coarse, with large inclusions of a flint temper, but the inner face of the sherd appears to have been burnished as it feels and looks shined. The outer face is severely abraded and the inner face has also suffered. Where the abrasion has occurred, one can see past the black outer oxidised finish to the light brown core. The curvature of the sherd suggests that the vessel would have had an original diameter of c. 100mm.
