Silver coin fragment. Late Saxon penny fraction, possibly a contemporary copy of Edward the Elder (899-924); appears to have the obverse design on both sides. The earliest in the sequence illustrated by Mossop (1970, The Lincoln Mint c.890-1279, Corbitt and Hunter, Newcastle upon Tyne, plate 1) include examples with the OLE ending and coins identified as Viking copies of coins of Alfred.
