An incomplete and worn debased silver early-medieval silver penny of Aethelred I (865 - 871), Lunettes type (c.865-71; North 622; obverse: Lyons and Mackay group 2 Wessex regular Lunettes variant i, inscription style 1; reverse: Lunettes A), moneyer: Lang. Ref: Lyons and Mackay 2007.
About a third of the coin is missing and its green discolouration indicates the low levels of silver in the coin and high copper content.

A copper alloy coin that looks like an imitation of an Early Medieval silver penny of Aethelred I (865 - 871). Only half of the coin survives. The front shows a bust right, the body and arms interrupting the legend which reads [AE](Đ)ELRED[...]. The reverse is a lunette enclosing the top line of the legend which reads: MON / (M)AN(N) / [INC]. Compare North number 622.
It is not clear whether this is a contemporary imitation or a modern replica. It has been referred to Early Medieval coin specialists and this record will be updated with their opinions.
