A Roman Republican silver chariot denarius coin of the moneyers C. Gargonius, Ogulnius and M. Vergilius, dating from c.86BC and minted in Rome.
The obverse shows the head of Apollo wearing a laurel wreath, although abrasion has resulted in the loss of much of the original detail of the head. There is some decoration on the outside edge of the obverse, but no detail is apparent and most of it has worn away.
The reverse depicts the four horse chariot, with some decorative detail on and near the outside edge, but this is now worn away.
