An invasively worked tertiary flint flake. The flake is semi-circular but the straight edge is a break which occurred after the working but is not recent. The flake is 21.2mm long, 15.8mm wide and 2.7mm thick. It is bi-facially worked with scalar flaking but there is very little, if any, edge retouch. It may be a pre-form for a tool which was never completed. There is very little dating evidence at this flake could date from anytime between the late Mesolithic and the Bronze Age. However, it is slightly more likely to be from the Early Bronze Age. There is slight patination on all fac…

Middle Bronze Age bronze metalwork from Poulton, Gloucestershire Description 1. Palstave, broad-bladed. Complete, well finished axe-head with deliberate hammer-rippling on the cutting edge bevels and, more diffusely, on the sides and faces of the blade. Flanges are of truncated-leaf form in profile. Below a thick stop on either face is a deep pendulous shield motif defined by a near V-shaped rib enclosing a depression and, on one face, also a fine central rib. Greenstone (epidiorite or dolerite) whetstone or muller with two worked edges, probably used to polish metal, although the base may also have been used as a rubbing stone, to grind grain. The muller is sub-oval in plan, with one rounded end and one flat, where the edge is slightly damaged. The stone is sub-triangular in section, flat on the side that was used for rubbing, and also worked on the other two oblique faces, where it was used instead as a base for polishing metal implements. The muller base would have been used with a larger saddle quern to grind grain between the stones …

Small, plain penannular gold ring of flattened oval cross section; the ends taper slightly to flat terminals. Examination in the laboratory indicated that the object has a base metal core. External diameter 15.5x14mm; internal diameter 4.5mm; breadth 6mm; weight 6.18 grams. Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of penannular ring from 'Havant area', Hampshire, indicated a gold content of 76 - 79 %, silver content of 16 - 18 %, the remainder being copper. The ring weighs 6.18 grams and the specific gravity measurement of 9 indicates that it has a base metal core.

The spearhead has been broken just under the beginning of the cavity in which the shaft would have been socketed. The object is decorated with ribs and grooves radiating from the terminal point. There is some pitting on the surface. The point has been bent slightly 40.6mm below the terminal point; there is a fracture on the surface of the spear indicating this stress. In section, the spear head shows a circular middle with highly-angled points at either side. An insufficient portio…
