Glass, white (i.e. clear, but with a greenish tint) Possible Vessel fragment. Melted glass, with an angular corner which might suggest this comes from the base of a vessel, or from the corner of a thick pane. As there is no iridescence, this may either be a fragment of Roman soda glass or glass of much later date, but is unlikely to be Medieval or Early Post-Medieval potash glass. It is also uncertain whether this may represent glassworking, or simply the incorporation of glass shards in a bonfire. Date: Unknown, from Roman to Modern, 40-2000. An unidentified copper alloy object of uncertain date. The object is a single strip of metal with an oval section. Both ends taper to flattened and rounded points with one end curving. While no diagnostic features remain allowing a definite identification to be made it is possible that this object is a worn nail cleaner of probable medieval date. The metal is a dark blackish-brown colour and is worn. The object is 49.8mm long, 4.5mm wide, 3.1mm thick and weighs 2.6g. Due to a lack of contextual evidence and any diagnostic features it is not possible to date this object any more closely.

County: Lincolnshire

Copper alloy Possible Pin, as identified by finder. Cast pin with small bun-shaped sub-spherical head and a short thick tapered shank; corrosion leaves it uncertain whether a moulded collar lies between head and shank. The small head and thick shank distinguish this object from the majority of pins, whether used as dress fastening items - for which this example would be robust enough - or for pinning hair or veil. Suggested date: Roman to Early Medieval, 40-850. Length: 32.4mm, Diameter (head): 5.3mm, Weight: 1.75gms.

Lead Possible Weight, as identified by finder; if so, perhaps representing a short-measure averdepois ounce. Cast plano-convex or hemispherical object with tapered central perforation of maximum diameter 4mm and a broad rim and groove around this hole on the flat underside. However, David Haldenby notes that Viking Age weights he has recorded are not perforated (pers. comm., citing objects catalogued in Haldenby, D. and Richards, J.D. 2016, in Internet Archaeology no. 42). An alternative identification as a Hnafetafl piece might be entertained, as the hemispherical form and a hole …

A piece of metal working debris; waste material, probably a solidified spill. The metal looks to be lead alloy but is surprisingly light, so may be another white metal. It is sub rectangular and irregular on one face where it was in contact with the ground, and rounded on the other face which was exposed to the air. It has an intermittent grey patina. This waste material is impossible to date, but is recorded as a potential indicator of metal working.

An incomplete lead-alloy anthropomorphic figurine of uncertain date. It is missing its head, as well as the means of attachment at the base due to old breaks. The figure is depicted seated with knees pulled up towards the chest/chin and arms wrapped around the legs. The arms and legs are relatively crudely rendered; the legs are oval shaped in section with small feet at the base that have no sign of any detailed decoration. At the knees the oval sectioned arms terminate in small flattened hands, again with no detailed decoration, that clutch the knees. The body of the figure is oval s…

A cast lead object of uncertain date or function. It is cylindrical in form with raised transverse/circumferential ribs at each end and at the centre of the object. The surfaces appear to be undecorated but the entire object has suffered from corrosion and it is therefore uncertain as to whether it was originally larger or attached to a larger object. It measures 19.97mm in length, 7.97mm in diameter, and weighs 1.59g.

A copper alloy possible bead of uncertain date. The bead is sub circular in plan and D shaped in cross section with a flat inner side and convex outer side; the sides are irregular in thickness and width. A crack across one side indicates where two ends of a rod were hammered around and butted together to form the bead. There is a very fine incised pair of lines round the centre of the bead. The lines join in places, and are straight in some areas an wavy to the point of scalloping in one area. It is not clear whether these are decoration, damage or a product of the manufacturing pr…

Brittle grey cloudy flint of mediocre quality Possible debitage. Irregular flint with fracture surfaces on all sides; these include one long scar which may indicate the hard hammer removal of a long flake; however, the other sides are struck and broken irregularly, and the sharp arises between these impact scars are so sharp as to suggest a recent origin through plough strike. Copper alloy decorated strip of medieval or post medieval date The strip is sub-rectangular and is likely to be broken at one end (with a surviving length of 22.0mm, a width of 7.9mm, a thickness of 2.0mm and a weight of 1.5g). The strip has border of raised chevrons around three of the sides. At one end is a raised cross with expanded, triangular terminals and at the broken end is a raised square. It is now difficult to determine what the strip may be derived from, possibly binding or from a box or casket of medieval to post medieval date.

Copper / lead alloy fitting of uncertain date The fitting appears to be complete or near complete (with a length of 20.1mm, a width of 18.8mm, a thickness of 7.3mm and a weight of 6.6g). The fitting is slightly convex across its width and the sides are straight and near-parallel. The face is ribbed and probably formed three central circular holes, only one of which survives (of 4.5mm diameter). The rear is flat and has two stubs on one side, possibly the remnants of loop.
