Description: Piece of gold rod, probably a small fragment of a flange-twisted or bar-twisted torc with three flanges, now bent into a spiral of two full turns. One end is original, with a rounded tip and neat triangular cross-section. From the rounded tip, the terminal flares slightly for c. 10mm and runs straight, before starting to coil. As it starts to curve, each face becomes concave so that the cross-section is Y-shaped, and the rod is then neatly twisted as well as bent into a coil. After two full turns the rod is apparently cut or broken. It is…

A fragment of a flange- or bar-twisted gold torc, 39.7mm in length, dating to the Middle Bronze Age (probably Penard phase) c. 1300 - 1100 BC. The torc has a x-shaped cross-section with four flanges twisted into a spiral with a circular cross-section of 6.6mm diameter. Both ends of the fragment are abraded and one appears to have been crushed. It is unclear whether the fragment has broken off from or been cut from the original torc.

A fragment of Middle Bronze Age (probably Penard phase, c. 1300 - 1100 BC) flange- or bar-twisted gold torc. The fragment is straight with breaks at either end. The torc has a x-shaped cross-section with four flanges, although they twist in such a way as to give a circular cross-section around the flanges. The breaks are quite sharp, suggesting they could be quite recent. The bend is not quite at the centre of the object.

The find consists of a single Iron Age twisted multi-strand style torc with ring terminals similar to others found in Norfolk over the last 60 years.  The torc has an internal diameter of approximately 20 cm.  It is made of predominantly gold and silver. It is made from four strands of wires twisted around each other two and a half times. Each of the 4 strands is made from 6 wires (c. 3 mm thick).  The strands are alternately twisted one clockwise and the next counter clockwise.  The strands were cast on to the terminals.  Evidence for this is clearly visible …

A complete piece of gold ribbon or bracelet possibly dating to the Bronze Age, 2350BC to 800 BC. The ribbon is a long thin strip of a gold, which has been folded three times over itself, and terminates at either end with a rounded edge. The surface of the ribbon has been scratched. There is no decoration visible. The ribbon is a yellow gold colour, and measures 76.1mm in length, 7.3mm in width, 0.6mm in thickness, and weighs 4.23g.  Similar to Record KENT-21C63F on the database.

A fragment of solid gold rod, possibly part of a torc of Iron Age date, about 350 - 50 BC, but not conclusively so. The object is likely to be over 300 years old. The fragment is a short length of solid gold rod, of oval cross-section, and slightly curved. One flat end appears complete.; it is smooth, but is angled across the rod and is slightly concave. The other end is cut half way through with a shap instrument such as a chisel, and then torn/broken across the thinnest point. The break is rough and shows some small air pockets within the rod, suggesting an imperfect casting. T…

Solid gold armring with punched decoration. The armring is circular in section and curves in an oval shape, with overlapping terminals. Shallow punched dots cover the outer three quarters of the object. These measure approximately 1.44mm in diameter and are tightly clustered, with some overlap. There is noticeable wear to the outer edge of the object as the surface is smoother and the punched dots are much shallower. Two fragments of a gold torc with buffer-shaped terminal and applied wire decoration dating to the middle iron age c. 400-250 BC. Only approximately half the length of the torc is present and this has been broken into two parts across the neck ring. Fragment A consists of one terminal and part of the neck ring. Fragment B, which has been torn from fragment A, consists of part of the neck ring. The remainder of the neck ring and second terminal are missing. The two pieces can be refitted along part of the torn edge. Together they form approximately half of the original o…

A gold terminal from a bar torc of Middle Bronze Age date. c.1300-1150 BC The terminal is trumpet shaped with a flat end, 8.7 mm diameter. In section it is more or less octagonal, having eight irregular, undecorated facets. It narrows to 4.5 mm diameter and bends back on itself, forming a U-shape and terminating in a break. At the break, the shaft of the torc is bent upwards slightly, ie, out of alignment with the terminal; this probably represents damage rather than the original shape. (compared with intact examples of bar torcs such as British Museum number 1932,0511.2 ) The su…

Fourteen fragments of gold alloy (electrum) twisted round-sectioned wire. All, apart from three single pieces, consist of two twisted wires. All are broken at both ends into lengths between 10mm and 29.5mm. Diameter of cross-section 1.5 - 1.7mm. Weight 12.97g. Gold torc, sheet and hack piece wrapped together. An unidentified gold cluster consisting of a Middle Bronze Age spiral twisted torc fragment wrapped around a fold and bent gold sheet. The gold sheet appears to have impressed decoration running in broadly parallel lines down its length. The torc is made of a rod that is square in cross section with accentuated corners created by slightly concave edges. This has been twisted tightly but unevenly across its surviving length. These twists end c.10mm from one terminal where the rod becomes sub-square almost oval in cross section and n…

An incomplete gold flange-twisted torc and accompanying fragment of bar dating to the Middle Bronze Age (c. 1300-1100 BC). The torc comprises a section of the body and one of the plain terminals. The body of the torc consists of a regular four-flanged twisted bar that is cruciform or '+' shaped in cross-section. One end of this bar is broken relatively evenly but some of the flanges are bent, while the other end is attached to the plain terminal. Description: A fragment from a cast and then twisted gold bracelet, possibly repurposed into a ring dating to the Middle Bronze Age (c.1300 – 1100 cal BC). The object is made of a gold rod that has been bent into an oval shaped hoop whose two terminals overlap one another. The rod is rectangular in section (c.3.6mm wide and c.3.1mm thick) with slightly accentuated corners created by slightly concave edges. This rod has been twisted moderately (having 5 twists) across its length. Both terminals end in transverse breaks. Dimensions: The ring is 14.8mm long and 13.0mm wide. In it…

Description: Possibly less than half of the object survives due to two transverse breaks in the bar. The object is made of a rod that has bent into a U-shape in plane. Description: Complete gold Middle Bronze Age four-flange twisted-bar torc. The main bar has been cut longitudinally to create an X-shaped cross-section and has been twisted relatively evenly. The hoop has been slightly distorted and a number of the crests of the twist have been bent or otherwise damaged. At either end of the twisted section is a trumpet-shaped terminal. These appear to be integrally cast and have a circular cross-section. At each terminal the bar tapers just before the twisted flange ends. Each terminal then doubles back and gradually expands along its length. Both of…

A fragment of probable Iron age torc. Description: A short length of thick gold alloy wire, which gently curves towards one end. It has been cut at both ends using a chisel or similar implement. The surface shows evidence of hammering and a few light scratches. Measurements: length: 16.4mm diameter: 3.2mm weight: 2.15g Discussion: The wire is facetted in places, suggesting it was hammered out from a square-section piece to achieve a rounder cross-section. This is characteristic of Iron Age wire production (Joy et al. 2014: 149-50). Similar fragments, dating from around …

Description: Incomplete fragment from a gold Middle Bronze Age flange twisted torc comprising one terminal and a length of twisted metal, terminating in a break. The surviving terminal is oval in cross-section and exhibits evidence of hammering at the tip. Four longitudinal cuts have been made into the bar to create an X-shaped cross-section and the bar has then been twisted. The piece curves along its length and terminates in a break. This would appear to be accidental, rather than deliberate. The edges of a number of the twists are dented, probably due to post-depositional factors. …
