TREASURE CASE 2016 T662. A distorted annular gold hoop of Bronze Age or Iron Age date. The hoop is formed of cylindrical band of sheet metal that is flat in cross section and with no joins apparent. The band has been folded longitudinally to create a central ridge but the whole object is now bent and distorted. There is no decoration on either side of the band. This object is similar to a so-called' dorsal muff' from an Iron Age torc (see NMS-C6DFC1 / 2007 T119 for comparison), but it may also an ornament (such as a hiar or dress accessory) of Middle to Late Bronze Age date ho…

An Iron Age copper alloy beaded section probably from a beaded torc (circa 800 BC-AD100). The object is hollow and gently curves. At one end there are two diametrically opposed circular perforations, possibly rivet holes. The middle section is decoration with moulded ridges and grooves that extend 75% around the circumference, the inner surface is smooth. Mid green patina. A similar example is illustrated in MacGregor (1976 no. 201) however that example does not have the rivet holes and the beading is slightly different. Dimensions: length: 39.80mm; diameter: 9.26mm; weight: 19.…

The neckring is made from a heavy, thick bar of oval cross-section, which is thickest in the middle and tapers towards both ends. The terminals are finished off as flat oval surfaces. The object appears to have had a good surface finish prior to damage and it has been left entirely plain. The original curvature of the ornament has been distorted asymmetrically so that one arm is more extended than the other. The middle of the bar bears deep >cuts= across both faces apparently having been formed by ancient chisel strikes. Dimensions and metal content: Maximum dimension (distorted) 20…
