An incomplete copper alloy composite chape of probable late medieval or early post-medieval date (c.1400-1600AD). The chape is formed of a singled sheet that has been wraped into a conical form and then squashed flat. At its open end it now has a wide open aperture (34.5mm wide) from which the chape narrows in a crinoline curve to a narrow pointed terminal which is c.3mm diameter. At the join from the wrap the plate becomes ragged possibly from a damaged hole
The chape is reddish brown colour.
The chape is 52.1mm long, 34.5mm wide, 3mm thick and weighs 9.39 grams.

The chape is sub-triangular with a convex edge on one side and a straight edge on the other. An incomplete, copper alloy possible knife or dagger scabbard chape of late medieval date or early post-medieval date, about AD 1300 - 1650. It is formed from copper alloy, with no visible seams or rivets. It is U shaped, and hollow (now filled with mud). The chape is bent and broken and there are two holes (damage) in the closed end. The chape has a light green patina. It is 22.7mm long, 21.7mm wide, 9.4mm thick, and weighs 7.55g. Compare SWYOR-F4F238 for references. It is also possible that the obejct is a thimble, but it has no pits.

An incomplete copper alloy probable scabbard chape of possible Roman date, AD 43 - 100. It is triangular with a broken edge across the top which reveals an iron core. It is lentoid in cross-section. At the apex is a knob which is oval in cross-section, but flat on the front and back. There is a raised ring on the underside of the knob. There are no collars above the knop. The object is 35.2mm long, 27.8mm wide, 9.3mm thick and weighs 13.41g.

A complete copper-alloy scabbard chape with traces of white metal coating. The object is composed of a triangle of sheet metal rolled into a long conical tube. A seam can be seen running the length of one side. The lower end is rounded. The upper socket end is decorated with at least two incised grooves encircling it. An incomplete and flattened copper alloy dagger chape dating to the medieval period (c.AD 1200-1450).
The object is made of sheet copper alloy that has been folded over. The terminal is pinched closed and the mouth is incomplete and open. Two large incomplete rivets are secured through the folded seam. The object is incomplete and has a bright green patina.

Description: the object is comprised of the front plate of chape, which is sub-triangular and convex in plan. At the point of the chape is a knop. The front of the plate is decorated with two transverse oblique ribs. The rest of the front surface is convexly bowed and undecorated. The interior is hollow and plain.

Only the front plate of the chape survives which is convex and bears openwork and moulded decoration. The plate has a U-shaped base with a moulded scallop shell design on the upper surface. An Early Medieval pyramidal scabbard mount likely dating AD 500-700.
The object was shaped like a four-sided pyramid with a flattened apex, though it is now bent inward on the front side. The reverse is hollow, except for a single, integral transverse bar that runs across the base. The mount is undecorated, very worn, and has a largely light green and light brown patina.
