A silver and gold mount of Early Medieval date (550-650 AD), probably from a sword scabbard. The mount is pyramidal in shape, and is hollow with a square, slightly recessed apex and trapezoidal-shaped sides. The base is square in plan, and an integral rectangular bar runs transversely across it. Set within the recess of the apex is waffle patterned gold foil. The recess is now empty aside from this decoration, but it is likely that it once held a gemstone or glass setting, with traces of a white paste still visible around the edges.
