The axe is a pointed oval shape in plan with a wide crescent shaped cutting edge. All the knapping scars have been removed through polishing. The butt end is incomplete and has a small section missing. The cutting edge is also damaged, there is a large semi-circular missing…

Pale grey-buff flint with very marked patina suggesting a long period of exposure to a calcareous environment; possible polished flint axehead fragment. A small chunk which may preserve the crescentic cutting edge of a polished flint axe; if this is so, the other side of the blade has been pitted by frost fractures and/or other impact damage, and the butt and most of the body of the axe are lost. A partly polished flint axehead. A bifacially flaked axehead made on a tabular nodule of mottled, opaque grey flint. Vestigial areas of cortex and subcortex remain on both faces and within the flint there are large, irregular areas of banded orange and brown iron precipitation. The cutting edge is unfinished. It is crudely rounded with some longitudinal flaking to create the edge. The sides of the axehead are parallel as they extend from the cutting edge and begin to taper from about halfway along into the narrower, squared butt. The flaking along the edges is regular, creating a zig-z…

Dark grey metamorphic polished stone axe fragment. A chip identified by the finder as from a stone axe of darker metamorphic rock than the familiar Group VI axe-heads, from imported elsewhere in western Britain. Three long thin parallel flakes have been struck from the dorsal side by probably bipolar working [i.e. from both ends] leaving a concave ventral surface. This pattern of working would usually commend a later Mesolithic date, though the use of part of an axe may extend that date range into the early Neolithic. Another small fragment of similar stone has been reported from the v…

A polished late Neolithic axehead, 112.7mm in length, made from a grey flint. The axehead has a lenticular cross section which expands in width from 30.6mm at the butt to 52.7mm at the front. The cutting edge is lost to heavy battering damage which looks to be the result of use and also has removal scars consistent with attempts at re-sharpening.
