Ingot. Cast plano-convex billet of metal, cut at both ends. The flat surface shows signs of the cooling of molten metal poured into a shallow open mould or scrape. The weight of the object may relate it to pre-Roman metrical systems, as with a recently reported ingot from Bigby, Lincolnshire, NLM-EBBC25, and a published example from Gussage All Saints, which was found in a 1st-century BC context (Jackson, R. 1990, Camerton The Late Iron Age and Early Roman Metalwork, London, British Museum Publications ltd., page 51, plate 16 no. 176).
