Incomplete probably medieval copper alloy ear scoop / toothpick combination implement. Only the ear scoop terminal is present with a short length of writhen shank. Such objects belong to the 14th century (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 379, fig. 261 nos. 1758-60), but very similar scoops appear in toilet sets of the Early Anglo-Saxon period (MacGregor and Bolick 1993, 216-7, cat. nos. 37.2 and 3). It is most likely that this example is medieval. Weight 0.44g. Extant length 24mm. Width 5mm.

Incomplete Early Anglo-Saxon to Middle Saxon copper alloy ear scoop, a delicate sub-rectangular rod with both ends broken, one across an expansion and thinning to a missing hole for suspension and the other across the start of a scoop-like depression on one face. A copper alloy implement, likely an ear scoop. It has a rectangular cross-section, but there is no barley-sugar twist in the middle. One end is wide (9.71mm), tapering to 4.04mm wide along the main stem, before expanding at the other end (6.03mm wide) to form a trapezoidal concavo-convex shaped bowl. Now bent back upon itself, resulting in it currently being 37.57mm long. The stem is 1.98mm thick. An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman ear scoop or spoon from a toilet set dating to c. AD 43-410. The spoon is cast in one piece with a flattened oval suspension loop with a transverse groove below the hole, it tapers into a now bent shaft. A probable copper-alloy ear scoop of Roman date. The object is a single shank of copper-alloy with a circular cross section. One end tapers to a rounded point. The other is a flat C-shaped, elongated bowl which becomes shallower as it tapers along the shaft. Toward the pointed end there is a series of circumferential grooves around the shaft starting at about the mid-point.

An almost complete post medieval bone toilet implement dating to the 16th century, possibly an ear scoop dating to c. AD 1550 - 1650. It has been carved from a single small animal bone, with the wide end formed into a small scoop above two curved indents forming shoulders. This is  cut into the main stem on either side, and the other narrower end formed into a point, again with two smaller curved indents below it. The general condition is good with slight chipping along the edges. Length 73.2 mm, width 9.7 mm, thickness 4.6 mm and weight 2.28 g.

A complete but bent and twisted double ended toilet article, probably an ear scoop. The artefact would have originally been a straight cylindrical bar (c.2.3mm diameter) with two terminals which flatten and widen into elongated drop shaped (piriform) scoops with convex bottoms and concave tops. However at some point it appear to have been bent roughly in its middle into a U-shape with both the terminals then bent at 90 degrees. The artefact is a mid green colour all over. A fragment of a copper alloy object, probably Roman, dating from c. AD 43- 410. The object is possibly an ear scoop, or a medicinal spoon. At one end there is a shallow bowl, this is sub oval in shape and slightly concave. From one of the narrow edges of the bowl a shank projects, this is circular in cross section. This narrows and ends in a worn break. The object has a mid green patina, and measures 31.6mm in length, 5.8mm in width, and weighs 8.71g.

Incomplete medieval sheet copper alloy combination earscoop / toothpick with a twisted shank. The tip of the toothpick is missing. Very similar to examples from 14th-century contexts in London (Egan and Pritchard 1991, nos. 1758-61) and closest in size to no. 1758. Extant length 54.5mm. Width 5.1mm. Weight 1.32g. It is interesting to note that objects of this form recorded on this database more commonly occur in silver than in copper alloy.
