One of a pair of complete cast copper alloy divinational rods of Early Early-Medieval, sixth or early seventh century date (AD 500 – AD 620). Length 48.5mm, maximum diameter 4.8mm. Weight 5.02g.
Also known as an oracle rod, this object is sub-oval (almost circular) in cross-section. The surface is corroded and a mid green crazed patina survives. The iron staining is a result of the rod being in contact with an iron sword in a plough damaged grave.
