Copper alloy probable chatelaine fragment. A cast miniature spoon with a round lightly concavo-convex bowl and a papered stem which is flattened at its upper end to form a drilled loop set at right angles to the plane of the spoon bowl. A spot of gilding appears; this might equally be a feature of a harness pendant of medieval date. The finder kindly suggests this to be from a chatelaine group of suspended cosmetic items, a suggestion followed here. Suggested date: probably Roman, 43-410 Length: 34.6mm, Width (bowl): 13.9mm, Thickness (stem): 3.4mm, Weight: 2.59gms
