An early-medieval gold tremissis (pale shilling) of Two Emperors type dating c. 650-70. (BMC type 1; Sutherland type II.v; North 20, Metacalf 80?) Obverse: Bust right wearing a pearled diadem and cuirass indicated by dots, pseudo-legend consisting of a large A and v behind head with an N(?) in front. Between them a cross on a flat base. Reverse: Two half figures, seated on throne, stylized Victory/angel above, wings outstretched, groups of three pellets either side of Victory's head. A chipped early-medieval pale gold shilling (aka thrymsa) of Two Emperors type (BMC type 1; Sutherland type II.v; North 20) dating c. 650-70. Refs: Sutherland 1948; North 1994; Gannon 2013: 94-5.
