A Middle to Late Bronze Age gold penannular ring dating to c. 1300 - 750BC. A complete gold bi-partite penannular ring comprising of two bands of gold stacked one on top of the other, and apparently soldered together. Each band is sub-circular (oval) in cross-section and the ring is sub-circular (oval) when viewed in plan. The terminals are flat and meet in the centre. There are scuff marks located near the terminal on the outer side. In the soldered recess on either side of the terminals, there is slight cracking which can be seen under a microscope. No decoration. The rin…

Small strip of gold wound around a strip of gold wire. The gold strip on this peice of 'hack' gold is wound around the bars three times. On the opposite side to the start of the strip is a small perforation. The wire inside appears to be bent over on itself 4/5 times. Date c.2350 - 800BC. Length: 12.2mm, Width: 11mm, Thick: 5.1mm, Weight: 4.4g Discussion: This object is similar to other pieces of wrapped gold dated to the Bronze Age GLO-FE959E and SF-D30D10, although this piece is not ribbed and CORN-0E9443 which is plain. This places the object before 1720 and as the o…

It comprises a crumpled strip of sheet or ribbon gold around 63.7mm in length, decorated with around 10 parallel ridges running along its length across one side; the reverse is undecorated. There is a partial tear across the mid section, probably from post depositional damage. Description: The parallel sided strip of gold has twelve (possibly thirteen) embossed longitudinal lines visible on both faces, giving a corrugated effect. Both ends appear to be breaks, and the strip has broken into two pieces post-recovery. Both long edges are folded making a thicker edge. About 2.6mm - 2.8mm of the sheet is folded over on each edge. A fragment of gold strip or bar with a flared terminal. The strip has been coiled with the terminal on the inside. The strip is rectangular in cross section. At one end is a flared, flat-ended, terminal (approximately 4.5 mm thick) which is oval in cross section. At the other the strip has a deliberate angled cut. The strip is flattened from the terminal and expands in width to the cut end. The sides have been raised to create low flanges. This is slightly more prominent along the edges of one face (the outer face of the coil) than the other. The strip is 1.4 mm thick at the ridge…

Description: Penannular ring of probable Bronze Age date, probably from a composite (multiple strand) ring. It is C-shaped in cross-section, with a convex outer and a concave interior. The width of the ring is very consistent but the two ends do not sit quite in line, as if the ring has been slightly bent out of shape. There is a c. 1.5mm gap between the two ends, one of which is slightly incurved and the other slightly outcurved, as if they once joined. The top and bottom edges are neat and parallel, but one is more highly polished than the other, which has a narrow roughened str…

Three fragments of an incomplete folded gold strip or ribbon dating to the Bronze Age (c. 2200 - 800 BC). Description: The ribbon is in three separate fragments, each of which are decorated on one side with four regular, longitudinal, parallel grooves whilst the other side is plain. The very tips of the ends of each fragment fold over slightly and the two smaller parts fit the two ends of the larger, so it can be deduced that these snapped off through being bent.
