One end of a gold penannular 'tress-ring'. 10 mm wide and 0.6 mm thick, the surviving length is 19 mm long and weight is 1.09g. The exterior face has a raised rounded border on its three original sides, surrounding nine longitudinal ribs separated by ten rounded concave grooves to give an evenly corrugated effect. Some of the grooves have longitudinal scratches which may be from the mould or from later finishing. The interior face is flat apart from a slight ridge at the original short edge, which may be a result of gentle hammering or, more probably, a reflection of the original moul…

Neither terminal looks broken - thus object is complete. Ribbon is extremely tangled, but it would seem that intermediate narrowing is roughly central. The 'bar' thus created is currently tightly curved but may not have originally been so. Terminal 2 has flat section leading straight out of ribbon; no.1 is more rectangular and involves a half twist, its faces having sprung from the sides of the ribbon! No real sign of original twisting of ribbon - despite the extensive buckling there seems to be no 'extra-length' along the edges relative to the centre-line. Probably a bracelet, given …

Gold foil plated ring with silvery gold wire inlaid into the gold foil. The ring has a diameter of 15.5 mm and it is sub-square or sub-circular in cross-section, measuring 5 mm deep and 5 mm wide; the faces are most flattened near to the terminals. The ends of the ring butt right up against each other and are joined by corrosion from the core. A copper-alloy core is suggested by green corrosion products in two places, both on the interior surface of the ring; behind the terminals, and where the gold sheath has cracked on the opposite side from the terminals. Further damage to the gold…

A gold Penannular ring (Treasure no. 2003 T91), with broad stripes of yellow and paler gold; the latter shows some black tarnish. The outer surface of the ring shows wear. the hoop tapers to flat terminals. When tested the ring was found to be solid A well known Late Bronze Age type and decorative in character. Analysis by British Museum specialists indicated a gold content of approx. 78% and silver of 18%. The ring has a specific gravity of 15.9. i.e. not a gold covering over a non-precious metal core.

Description: A strip of very flimsy sheet gold describing an even crescentic shape, broadest in the middle and tapering gently to the ends. The terminals are expanded a little to form oval tabs, each with a central perforation, although one tab is broken across the perforation. This loss evidently occurred in antiquity, for there is a secondary perforation in the neck of the terminal. The edges of the crescent, including the tabs, are entirely outlined with closely set punched dots. The dots are about 0.9mm across, protrude beyond the surface by about 0.2mm and number 6-7 per centimet…

Cup with conical body tapering to an omphalos base; the rim is flaring; a riveted strap handle links the rim and upper body. The rivet plates are lozenge shaped and the handle has decorative ridges parallel with its edges. The rim bears a row of dots punched from the outer surface and is otherwise plain; between this plain zone and a further plain zone at the base the cup is corrugated. The cup has been crushed, particularly on one side; this might have resulted from a single blow from agricultural machinery. Dimensions and metal content: In present condition: maximum height (exclu…

Maximum diameter:155mm; maximum thickness: 3.4mm; thickness of the intact terminal end: 0.5mm; weight: 36.1g. The presence of solder could not be detected by analysis but this does not preclude the use of the technique. The flat-faced ends show slight central dimples. Dimensions and metal content: Maximum diameter: 15mm; maximum width: 7mm, width of gap: 1mm; weight: 10.59g. A small Late Bronze Age penannular ring of fat `D' section, the flatter face facing inwards. The object appears to be made by folding sheet gold over a core of another material, probably of copper. Exterior surfaces are relatively well smoothed, but the interior and the terminal faces are less well finished, such that folds and crimps remain clear. Dimensions and metal content: Diameter: 15.2 x 13.9mm; weight: 4.4g. X-ray fluorescence analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate gold content of 78 per cent for the cover.

The neckring is made from a heavy, thick bar of oval cross-section, which is thickest in the middle and tapers towards both ends. The terminals are finished off as flat oval surfaces. The object appears to have had a good surface finish prior to damage and it has been left entirely plain. The original curvature of the ornament has been distorted asymmetrically so that one arm is more extended than the other. The middle of the bar bears deep >cuts= across both faces apparently having been formed by ancient chisel strikes. Dimensions and metal content: Maximum dimension (distorted) 20…

A broad flat strip of gold which has been folded into four. Both ends, one folded inside, appear to be ragged cuts, so the object was originally longer in both directions. The long sides are neatly finished, one convex, the other concave, which would have made the strip crescentic before folding. The strip is ornamented with a simple line of closely set punched dots set along the medial line, concentric with the curved edges. It is probably late Bronze Age in date, although a date earlier in the Bronze Age can not be overlooked.

Short length of rod originally of circular section of about 5 mm diameter. Both ends have been hammered, cut and finally torn. The hammer facets taper back and almost meet in the middle. The thinned blunter ends have steep 'cut' facets and are partly rough-fractured. The undamaged parts of the sides have slight longitudinal facets and fine striations from the original finishing. Such a small and undiagnostic fragment cannot be identified definitively. However, all the features, including the mode of fragmentation and the metal composition are consistent with this being part of a Bro…

A Late Bronze Age, gold penannular ring. The penannular ring has a roughly oval cross-section, the inner surface being flattened. The terminals are flat. The ring has alternate stripes of yellow and paler gold; this decorative banding has been considerably worn on each face and on the angles of the flattened inner surface. Examination of the surfaces of the terminals indicates that the piece probably comprises a gold wrapping over a core of different material; in such cases this is frequently copper alloy. The presence of a base metal core was subsequently confirmed in the laboratory.…

A small fragment of gold, rather crudely worked, although some of the dents are likely to be damage. One end is a narrow, twisty rod of round section, possibly an original terminal. This flares into a 'tab' the end of which is not certainly intact. It is therefore possible it continued as a longer ribbon. Extant length 24.3 mm; max, width 12.2 mm; diameter of rod 2.2-3.2 mm; max. thickness beadings 2.4 mm; thickness of ribbon centre 0.5 mm; weight 3.5 g The uncertainty as to whether thi…
