A pewter medal, probably a religious devotional medal of the type presented during first communion, or possibly commemorating an ecclesiastical event. Such medals have been in use since the medieval period and continue to be used today, although as this is lead it seems likely to be earlier than the 20th century. Unfortunately, the medal is too worn to determine what it commemorates, and so dating is not possible. One side is completely illegible, whilst the other appears to show a central figure, stood or possibly seated on a throne, with a standard or shield to either side. Lettering…

Cast pewter circular uniface token with remains of a casting sprue. The token has c.10% missing from one side due to old breaks and the stub of a sprue opposite. On one side is a capital H, the other is plain. Simple tokens of this type were used as small change and to keep track of transactions and debts, for example during agricultural piece work. Those decorated with initials are generally post medieval in date c.1500-1800 AD. It is 24.9mm in diameter, 2.6mm thick and weighs 7.59 grams.

Late Medieval or Post Medieval uniface, circular, cast, pewter token. The token has one plain face; on the other is a complex design that may represent a hill with two trees growing from it and 4 lines radiating below or may be a crude representation of a bird, a popular motif on such tokens. Cast lead tokens were widely used as a form of small change and to keep track of transactions and debts, for example during agricultural piece work. They are hard to date as they were often produced locally. The use of pewter and the design suggests this example dates from c.1400 to c.1800 AD. It…

Cast uniface pewter, or other tin alloy, token. The token is missing about 8% from one side. It has two holes cast in it, near the edge and 180 degrees apart, half of one hole has been lost due the break. The token is 21.9mm in diameter, 2.1mm thick and weighs 3.8 grams. It is decorated with two rough initials, probably JI surrounded by an apparently random pattern of six dots. Such simple tokens are difficult to date but the use of initials, the form and the material suggests a post medieval-modern date, probably the 18th century.

Cast pewter token. The token is flat and roughly circular; 20.4mm in diameter, 5.9mm thick and weighs 7.1grams. There appears to be designs on both side although both are illegible. Pewter tokens with a variety of designs continued in use for a long period so a general date of circa 1350-1800 AD is given.

17th/18th century lead/pewter token with four-petal flower design on the obverse and the letters R.W. in mirror-writing on the reverse. Tokens were a low-denomination currency, mostly used by the working class (and in rural areas) in periods when there was a shortage of small change. They are crudely made (cast, not struck or hammered).
