A body sherd of a wheel thrown ceramic vessel of a Medieval miscellaneous (unsourced) white ware. The sherd has a worn, mottled green glaze on the interior and exterior. The sherd is part of the rim of the vessel with a semi-circular handle parallel to the rim. Fabric type: white ware Firing condition: unoxidised light cream exterior, interior and core.

A copper-alloy case lid, probably of Post-Medieval date. The object has a flat, circular plate which decorated on the front with 3 pairs of rings. On the edge is a broken knop or loop. On the opposite edge is a perpendicular hinge, which is trapezoidal in plan. There are two holes in the hinge. The larger hole is in the correct position to open the case. The smaller hole appears to have been made by mistake or to be suspended and worn.

An incomplete cast lead steelyard weight dating from the Roman to Post Medieval periods. AD 43-1800. The object is sub circular in plan with a flat base. There is the remnant of a central iron projection, probably a suspension loop, at its top. There is an incised line running round around the circumferance in the middle of the weight. A cast copper alloy bell weight of 99.43g (3.5oz - approx 1/4 lb taking the loss of the handle into account) and of Georgian date. The weight has concave waisted sides with moulded lines around top and bottom and the suspension loop has broken away at the top. Around the base of the supension loop are several marks; a crowned G? cypher overstamped with unclear letters REI or RPI; a ewer (for the London Founders Company, used to demonstrate adherence to standards); an A (indicating measurement on the Averdepois scale). The base is slightly concave.

An incomplete copper alloy front plate from a medieval composite strap end of c. 15th century date. The plate is crescent-shaped and decorated with symmetrically flanking abstract engraved motifs, possibly degraded zoomorphic forms, surrounded by small recessed hatched fields. A cast copper alloy dagger pommel, probably from a rondel / roundel dagger. The pommel is circular, 32.4mm in diameter, with a flat cross section with rounded edges comprised of 16 radiating lobes forming a starburst pattern. The centre of the pommel has a 13mm diameter recess on both sides with a small central sub rectangular hole (c. 4.4mm wide) to take the end of the tang. The recess may  have once held a terminal cap as can be seen in SUR-964C87.

A cast lead alloy discoidal object, 27.8mm in diameter and 15.64g in weight. The front has a deeply moulded cross and pellet design with edges which are rounded and taper towards the front. The reverse is flat with a prominent central casting seam and a stump of what appears to be an integrally cast attachment loop shank suggesting an identification as a button.

An incomplete copper alloy stud with an iron shank, probably of post medieval date. The head of the stud is conical, 17.7mm in diameter, with concave sides and a ridged band and several fine incised lines decorating the circumference. The central portion of the stud is flat and 9.2mm in diameter, containing rusted iron from the now missing shank, a stump of which is also visible on the underside and around 7mm in width.

An incomplete cast copper-alloy spout from a cistern tap dating to the Post-Medieval period (c. AD 1600-1750). The spout is curved, around 17.4mm in width with an octagonally facetted cross section. There is a flared stop ridge with a broken projection and, on the other end, a cylindrical terminal of 13.8mm diameter.  The spout is part of a barrel or cistern tap (originally with a key) and is broken near where it would have met the key housing. Close parallels on this database include SUR-9568F7 and SUR-B41AB5.

A copper-alloy box, leather pouch, beads and paper of 20th century date. The box contained two pages from the Quran? as well as 4 beads (3 teal, 1 yellow). The yellow bead has since dried out and broken. There is also a small piece of fabric still inside the box. The box is rectancular in plan with a hinged lid. The outside of the box is decorated with a stippled, snakeskin pattern. The lid of the box has a single, red, oval stone in the centre. In each corner there is an empty circular field where there might have been similar stones. The box was found inserted inside a leather pouch.…
