Object type: RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: The City of Brighton and Hove
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy ring, slightly deformed, AD43-1800. No decoration apparent on the ring. Copper alloy rings have a variety of functions and are used for a broad periof of time. It is possible that this ring dates to a narrower period of AD.43-1400, based on the patina corrosion product though such dates are dubious. It is also possible that the ring is a finger ring, with a plain band, the flattened D shaped cross section is certainly supportive of this. Diameter: 26.69mm Weight: 3.89g

A complete post medieval copper alloy finger ring, AD1500-1800. The ring is badly corroded all around, obscuring the decoration. The ring is primarily thick, with a segment that is damaged and narrower. The ring is decorated on the thicker part of the band. Corrosion obscures the decoration on the damaged part of the band. The ring decoration appears to be gilded with three bands of decoration incised into the ring ( a thin band on the top of the ring, a thick middle band, and a potential missing lower band). There also appears to be regular indented holes on the centre thick band. …
