An extremely worn copper alloy 18th Century AD trade token. Obverse shows Hope standing, her left arm supporting a foul anchor (right as viewed) and her right hand holding an oval tablet. The tablet is inscribed [DUNHAM/A]ND/[Y]ALLOP/[G]OLD/[SMITH] in five lines. No obverse legend. The reverse is very worn but shows an unclear building, bird within circle above central door with wings outstretched and head turned left. An extremely worn counter-stamped copper alloy Spanish 8 Maravedis coin of Philippvs III, AD 1605-1652. Obverse and reverse extremely worn and almost illegible. One side of the flan shows [1]64[] centre right. Rotating the flan on a 12 o'clock axis the other side clearly shows a punch stamped oval counter-stamp. Within this it shows VIII with a pellet above and an 8 below. The VIII is located below a 1.9mm (length) crack in the edge of the flan and is slightly upward rising. Reverse shows The Arms of the City of Norwich consisting of a triple-towered castle above a lion. No reverse legend. The edge is plain. A circular perforation 2.45mm in diameter is set 1.58mm in from the edge of the flan.
