Broad period: ROMAN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published
A copper alloy Roman coin. A crude contemporary copy of an as of Hadrian (117-38), probably copied from an as of the period 125-8, possibly a Fortuna type. c.f. RIC II, nos. 677 and 698 and BMC III, pl. 86, no. 9. On this copy, the figure sits right rather than the normal left; this is probably because the forger forgot to reverse the type whilst cutting.
It is struck on an oval flan which is 26.4mm long, 24.5mm wide and 2.1mm thick. It weighs 5.85gm.
