Medieval lead object fragment, possibly the bulb from a boatswains' or pilgrims' whistle. Three-dimensional hollow object, originally domed or sub-spherical and with a suspension loop, is it now broken at the 'base' (opposite the suspension loop) and squashed flat. The surviving surface is decorated with two ring and dots, flanking a longitudinal herringbone line. The other surface is damaged and distorted but what survives appears to have been decorated in the same way (can make out two ring-and dots). There is no wear on the loop. The casting line runs down the sides of the loop and …

Lead alloy possible whistle fragment, as kindly identified by the finder. Cast terminal from a whistle, with a domed end with a round suspension loop on a short stalk at its apex, and with a basal collar. A clear mould line is visible on the outside of the object. The external surface is thickly patinated but the interior is only very lightly patinated, which may suggest that this object became detached from the rest after the whistle was lost or deposited intact. Lightly squashed. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1750-1850. Length: 14.6mm, Diameter: c.12mm, Thickness: 1.2mm, Weight:…

A small complete, shield shaped lead weight, with a flat top and base and curved edges. The triangular weight also has rounded corners. There is an extensive amount of damage on the top of the weight where the decoration is. Therefore it is illegible. The damage is in the form of deep incisions which give the impression they were done when the weight was hot due to the melting of the edges. The lead is a light whitish-grey colour and measures 48.71mm x 29.90mm x 15.34mm, weighing 111.32g. Due to a lack of examples and lack of context the date remains uncertain but it is probably Medie…

There is an outer beaded circle.
