Mass: 11.3g. Diameter: 25.3mm. The coin is largely complete but there has been some loss of material at the bottom of the flan. This is not recent damage.

The coin is 19.9mm diameter, 1.7mm thick and 2.7g.

A base silver Roman coin: a radiate of Gordian III (AD238-244) probably Pax on the reverse, holding olive branch and transverse sceptre. It has a patina that suggests a high copper content and it may be as little as 42% silver. A large chip is missing from the flan between 3 o'clock and 8 o'clock on the obverse. It is 20.1mm in diameter and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 2.44gm.Compare Sear Volume II number 8627, but with "C" obverse legend.

A Roman silver-plated radiate of Otacilia Severa (AD 244-9) (Reece Period 12), AETERNITAS AVGG, Aeternitas standing left, holding phoenix on globe in right hand and skirt in left. Mint of Rome. RIC - The obverse legend dates to AD 246-8, but the reverse type does not appear until the reign of Trebonianus Gallus (AD 251-3) - see RIC IV, pt 3, p. 162, no. 30. The coin does appear plated so is quite likely to be a contemporary copy.
