A silver sixpence of Elizabeth I dated 1572. Description: The coin is unclipped but there is an old crack to the edge of the flan, possibly from farm machinery damage, or from a flaw in the casting of the original flan blank. This has resulted in a small amount of lost material from the flan edge. The obverse of the coin, and especially the bust, is very rubbed and worn, suggesting that it was in circulation for some time. The initial mark is possibly a cross-crosslet on the obverse If this is so it would indicate it was produced at Thomas Stanley's mint in the Tower of London. Dates to between c1560 and c1561 AD. The diameter is 14mm and the weight 0.60g. Obverse inscription is E D G ROSA SINE SPINA and the reverse inscription is CIVI/TAS/LON/DON.
