Pottery Rimsherd. Pale sandy grey fabric; Greyware. The markedly flared rim of a wide bowl of estimated diameter 310mm. Though perhaps resembling a mortarium in its form, there is no trace of internal grit. Suggested date: Roman, 100-300. Sandra Firth kindly examined this sherd. Length: 97mm, Weight: 71.33gms.

Pottery; Coarseware fabric includes abundant large shell fragments. Vessel. Sherd from body of a wheel-thrown coarseware vessel, perhaps a storage jar. Fabric appears reddish at fracture surfaces, but inner and outer surfaces are dark grey. Suggested date: Roman (finder’s identification), 1-400. Length: 97.42mm, Thickness: 11mm, Weight: 106.75gms.

Rim sherd from a medieval cooking pot (1100 – 1350 AD). The sherd is heavily abraded and a fresh open section cannot be seen; therefore it is impossible to provide a description of the fabric. The pottery is a mid grey white colour; the outer surface is discoloured from sooting from fire. A direct parallel is not known as pottery types are unique to their location, the overall form is similar to that known from the 12th and 13th century. Two fragments of pottery, possibly Roman in date, (45-410AD). The first fragment is irregular in it's shape and quite coarse. The upper surface is orange in colour while the lower surface is a dark grey. The internal fabric is both orange and grey in places with small inclusions. The second fragment is a rim sherd. It is rectangular in shape. The top of the rim is curved and there is an incised line just below the top. The outer surface is orange and the inner fabric is light grey. The surface is pitted.

Fragment of Roman greyware pottery. It is dark grey in colour and sub-rectangular in shape. It looks to have an internal deposit probably scale from water boiling or urine. An incised line runs across the widest part.
