Object type: KNIFE
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
The ventral surface has not been worked. There is only one small flake scar which is at the proximal end. The striking platform is covered with a small area of cortex. The dorsal surface has been pressured flaked completely. One edge has a serrated edge, whether this is an intentional and purposeful component of the knife is undetermined. The flint is a dark brown colour with no discoloration.

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A complete knapped / worked flint scraper, of Late Neolithic dating (2900 BC to 2000 BC). The scraper is broadly semi circular in plan and rectangular in cross section being formed from a tertiary flake; possibly debitage. The upper / dorsal face of the scraper exhibits a series of irregular flake scars suggesting that this piece has been removed from a larger flake and been subsequently reused. The striking platform and the bulb of percussion are no longer present on the lower / ventral face, having been removed by a hinge fracture. The edges of the dorsal face have all be retouch…

Object type: AXE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A Neolithic flint axe which has been shaped by flaking. It is an axe with a thin tapering butt, classified by Manby as an A3 type. There is surviving cortex on one face at the butt end. It is an irregular pointed oval in section and is an elongated ovoid shape in plan. The butt tapers to a point but remains nearly as thick as the centre of the axe. The cutting edge is slightly pointed in plan and has been sharpened with some smaller removals. The flint is patinated and is white with large tan blotches. The flaking causes the median margin of the axes to be wavy or scalloped along the …

A flint axe head dating from the Neolithic period. The flint is light grey in colour and patinated, with part of the brown outer cortex still in place. It has a length of 109.91mm, width 37.06mm, thickness 20.34mm, weight 105.56g. It is smaller than most Neolithic axes, and is not particularly well made. The flint has imperfections such as holes and fossils in it, and the axe is not very well shaped, being more rectangular in section than oval. It is probably late Neolithic in date, as the tools with a lower quality of flint and working tend to be later in date (Edmonds, Stone Tools a…

Workflow stage: Published Find published
A scraper fabricated on a thermal flake of dark grey flint. The scraper is sub-triangular in plan and appears to be an old thermal flake, with good repatination, that has been subsequently reworked. One face has circular, radiating ripples across it and the opposing face has a large area of pale grey cortex. The narrow end of the scraper has been worked using invasive, parallel, low-angle retouch to create a narrow, rounded scraping tip. There is also extensive short, scaled, abrupt retouch along one edge to produce a second scraping edge. This scraper is probably Neolithic in date.

A flint blade core, probably dating to the Neolithic period. The core is fabricated on a piece of dark brown flint .There is a small area of cortex remaining on one side of the core, covering about 10% of the total surface. All of the vertical surfaces show scars from the removal of a number of blades, some with distinct step fractures. At the top of the core a broad striking platform has been prepared from a single, lateral strike. At the base, the core tapers to a point with another, small striking platform prepared and a single blade struck from it in the reverse direction to all t…

A borer or piercer fabricated on a pebble of dark brown flint. The flint pebble has been subject to a single strike to thin one end of it. There is no bulb of percussion evident but percussion ripples can be seen on the exposed face. The rest of the flint pebble is covered in a thick, off- white cortex The pebble has been finely and steeply pressure-flaked at the thinned end on two sides to produce a narrow point suitable for boring or piercing. The tip of the point has been broken off and lost. This object is probably of Mesolithic date.

The narrowest part of the flake is at the proximal end and has been worked into a point using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch along its edges. The tip of the point has had two spalls removed at approximately 45 degrees to the vertical plane to produce a chisel-like point with two facets.
