Record ID: PUBLIC-427AD6
Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A wedge-shaped Neolithic flint Axehead with polished sides. It is almost complete, made from a brown mottled flint and the 'blade' in good condition. An elongated flake scar extends from the butt along part of one side. This might be damage, or could represent an intentional flake removal taken before deposition.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A sub-oval, flint, end scraper. The scraper has been made from a primary flake of dark brown flint. There are clear ripples of percussion across the ventral face but the striking platform and bulb of percussion have been lost due to secondary working at the proximal end. The dorsal face is partially covered in a thick, off-white cortex. The scraper has been abruptly and steeply pressure flaked around 60% of its edge with the distal end worked to produce a rounded scraping edge. There is some further, more refined pressure flaking to the proximal end of the flake
These types of scrap…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A struck, secondary flake of pale grey flint. The flake has a large bulb of percussion with ripples of percussion spreading out from it across the ventral face. The dorsal face shows the scars of four previous blade removals. There is a small area of off-white cortex along one edge of the flake. There is no further working on the flake. It is probably Neolithic in date.

A scraper fabricated on a tertiary flake of red/brown flint. The flake has a large bulb of percussion with ripples of percussion spreading out from it across the ventral face. The dorsal face shows the scars of several previous blade removals at various angles to each other. There is no cortex visible on the flake. One edge of the flake, at the distal end, has been worked using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch to produce a scraping edge. It is probably Neolithic in date.

Object type: BORER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A borer fabricated on a thermal flake of pale grey flint. The flake is sub-triangular in plan and has circular ripples of percussion on one face with the opposing face covered in an off-white cortex. One edge of the flake, at the narrowest end, has been worked using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch to narrow the flake even further and produce a sharp point. This has been further enhanced by the removal of two small spalls struck downwards from the tip. The retouch along the edge also serves to create a scraping edge making this a dual-purpose tool perhaps. It is probably Neolithic i…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A scraper fabricated on a thick primary flake of brown flint. The flake is sub-triangular in plan and has ripples of percussion across the ventral face but no bulb of percussion as this has been lost through further working of the flake. The dorsal face is covered in grey cortex. The distal end of the flake and one edge leading to it have been worked into a rounded end scraper using long, parallel, semi-abrupt retouch. The flake has also been worked into a point at the truncated proximal end using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch. The flake would probably have be used as both an end…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A tertiary flake of mottled brown flint. The flake has a small bulb of percussion and ripples of percussion across the ventral face. The dorsal face has no cortex and has the scars of several flake removals, many ending in a series of hinge fractures. There is no further working on the flake. This may have been a flake removed to rejuvenate a core that had stopped producing useable flakes. It is probably Neolithic in date.

County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A borer or piercer fabricated on a thermal flake of honey-coloured flint. The flake is sub-triangular in plan. One face is free of cortex and may have the scars of previous flake removal. The opposing face is predominantly covered in an off-white cortex. The narrowest part of the flake has been worked into a point using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch along the curved, inner edge. The tip of the point has had two spalls removed at approximately 45 degrees to the vertical plane to produce a chisel-like point with two facets.

A probable burin fabricated on a small secondary flake of dark brown flint. The flake is sub-triangular in plan with a large bulb of percussion and ripples across the ventral face. The dorsal face has the scars of two previous flake removals. There is a small area of light brown cortex along one edge. The narrowest point of the flake has had a single spall removed from the tip, down the dorsal face at approximately 60 degrees to create a sharp, chisel-shaped point.
This object may have been used as a burin for gouging or as a small knife for cutting. It is probably early Neolithic …

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published
A scraper fabricated on a thermal flake of dark grey flint. The scraper is sub-triangular in plan and appears to be an old thermal flake, with good repatination, that has been subsequently reworked. One face has circular, radiating ripples across it and the opposing face has a large area of pale grey cortex. The narrow end of the scraper has been worked using invasive, parallel, low-angle retouch to create a narrow, rounded scraping tip. There is also extensive short, scaled, abrupt retouch along one edge to produce a second scraping edge. This scraper is probably Neolithic in date.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A scraper fabricated on a thermal flake of mottled brown flint. The scraper is tongue-shaped in plan. One face has circular ripples radiating from a central point and the opposing face is covered in pale grey cortex. One area of the cortex is damaged, probably from the action of agricultural machinery rather than being deliberate. One edge of the flake has been worked along its entire length using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch to produce a scraping edge. This scraper is probably Neolithic in date.

A notched scraper fabricated on a secondary flake of pale brown flint. The flake is sub-triangular in plan with a small bulb of percussion and ripples across the ventral face. Some radiating fissures are also visible towards the distal end of the ventral face. The flake tapers to a blunt point at the proximal end. The distal end is wider and has an area of off-white cortex along its edge. The dorsal face has the remains of previous flake removals in various directions. A shallow notch has been worked into the distal edge using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch. There are two smaller …

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A side scraper fabricated on a thick flake of pale brown flint. The flake has a small bulb of percussion and ripples across the ventral face. The flake appears to be struck from a natural chunk of broken flint that has started to recorticate on the dorsal surface. There is no cortex evident. There is no evidence of previous flake removals. One edge, towards the distal end, has been worked using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch into a scraping edge. The scraper probably dates from the late Neolithic to the early Bronze Age.
