Object type: PENDANT
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Flint pendant of possible Prehistoric date, though a more Modern date cannot be ruled out.
The pendant is a drop-shaped nodule of flint with a perforation of diameter 4.14mm at the rounded end. The perforation appears to have been drilled through the flint, though some chipping is apparent around the edges of the perforation on one face. One face of the pendant is relatively flat while the other has a vertical medial ridge with faces rising to join it. The flint has only been roughly knapped on this latter face.

Object type: HANDAXE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published
A worn, rolled and damaged lithic implement, identified as a Palaeolithic flint axe by the finder. The condition of the object, along with the fact that it is not truly bifacial, makes this identification questionable. The axe is roughly oval is plan and in cross-section, with flakes taken off both dorsal and ventral surfaces. There is some damage around the edge exposing a fresh mid-grey coloured flint. The surface has a reddish-brown patina.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A possible flint pendant of unknown date formed from a primary flake. The object is sub rectangular in shape. There is a perforation in one corner of the object which may have been deliberately created. The edges of the flake are rough and uneven and only a minute amount of retouch is visible. There is no evidence to suggest that it has been used as a tool. The cortex of the object is dark brown speckled with white. The opposite side is opaque with an area of light grey surrounded by an area of dark brown, with the outer edges being medium to light brown in colour. There is not enough…

A lithic implement, possibly representing the top of a flint axe. The axe is small, triangular in plan and also in cross-section. The axe is well worn and all of the edges are rounded. The flint is a mottled light brown-yellow colour. There is cortex or re-cortication at the butt end. There is a suggestion that this is lower or middle Palaeolithic, but this identification must only be taken with great caution.

Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Dark grey flint with cortex, scraper. Nodule fragment with limited patches of milky patina at the sites of primary working, perhaps of Neolithic date, which was followed by a long period of weathering. This surface was nearly removed by subsequent multangular hard hammer working, with limited angled scalar retouch along one aris. There is also some battering along this working edge. The casual execution of reworking may suggest a Bronze Age date for that episode, while a lack of subsequent patination may suggest the object was incorporated into a sealed context shortly after its final…

Object type: BACKED BLADE
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Dark brown-grey flint with cortex or recortification; backed blade. Thick flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a bulb on the ventral. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a straight edge, probably to form a cutting edge, and continues along the end of the object. The other end is also trimmed. Cortex may be retained along the opposite edge to afford a grip or permit pressure to be brought to bear. However, its appearance is unusual, and it may have begun to reform over a battered long edge opposite that described. Suggested date: Unknown…

Flint possible scraper. Triangular-section flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and a conchoidal surface on the ventral. Marks along a long curving edge may represent chipping rather than retouch. The object is covered by dense milky patina which suggests it has endured a long period of exposure. Suggested date: Unknown, Late Mesolithic to Bronze Age, 7000-800 BC.

Flint denticulate blade of broad unknown date (9000 - 1000 BC). The flint is a brown honey coloured, opaque, secondary flake with cortex remaining on the dorsal face. It is sub-rectangular shaped in plan and sub-triangular in section. There is irregular short, scaled, abrupt, soft hammer retouch to both left and right edges of the flint carried out from both the dorsal and ventral faces. Grey flint with cortex in two out of three cases; possible debitage. Three small thick flakes, all with indications of flakes having been struck from their dorsal surfaces. The largest has a concave ventral surface, the others have bulbar ventral surfaces. The development of a creamy patina over all struck surfaces indicates the objects have endured a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Unknown, Late Mesolithic to Neolithic, 7000-2350BC.

A fairly dark greyish brown secondary flint scraper of unknown date. A pronounced bulb of percussion on its convex Ventral Face suggests it may have been produced using a hard-hammer technique. There is a series of conchordial waves on its slightly concave Dorsal Face. A small Striking Platform (10.0 mm long x 3.0 mm wide) survives at the proximal end and an area of cortex (23 mm long and tapering from 13.0 mm to 3.0 mm wide) remains on the distal end. The cutting edge (26.0 mm long) appears to have been unretouched.

Burnt flint. Two small fragments of flint bearing a thick creamy patina suggesting its prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment, and both crazed overall by heating. The smaller chip may have had flakes struck from its dorsal side; the larger does not appear to have been deliberately worked, though it may have incurred adventitious impacts. A flint retouched blade which could either be Early Mesolithic or Neolithic in date (8300 BC - 2100 BC).
