A small secondary flake of pale brown flint with a distinct striking platform and small bulb of percussion from a soft hammer blow. One side of the flake is covered with a cream-coloured cortex except for a single scar from a previous flake or blade removal running the length of one edge of the flake. Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A lithic implement fabricated on a tertiary flake of dark brown and grey flint. The flake has a large bulb of percussion, most likely from a hard hammer strike, and ripples of percussion across the ventral face. There is a well-prepared, flat striking platform on the proximal end. The edges of the flake and much of the dorsal face have been extensively worked using both invasive, scaled, low-angle retouch and short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch to create edges that could be used for scraping. At the distal end, the flake has been worked into a point using short, scaled, semi-abrupt ret…

A scraper fabricated on a natural flake of dark brown flint, recorticated to an orange colour on one face and with extensive, cream-coloured cortex remaining on the opposing face. The flake is sub-triangular in plan with one edge worked using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch to form a scraping edge. The rest of the flake is unworked. .This crude type of tool, utilising a natural flake, is typical of flint working during later Prehistory.

A scraper fabricated on a natural flake of mottled pale brown and grey flint with a single, small area of cream-coloured cortex remaining. There is some creamy-white recortification on one face. One edge of the flake has been worked using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch to form a deep, concave scraping edge or large notch. The rest of the circumference of the flake has been worked using coarse, short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch to soften the sharp edges, presumably to make it more comfortable to use in the hand. A side scraper fabricated on a thick flake of pale brown flint. The flake has a small bulb of percussion and ripples across the ventral face. The flake appears to be struck from a natural chunk of broken flint that has started to recorticate on the dorsal surface. There is no cortex evident. There is no evidence of previous flake removals. One edge, towards the distal end, has been worked using short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch into a scraping edge. The scraper probably dates from the late Neolithic to the early Bronze Age.
