A lead uniface token dating to the period AD 1250 to 1800. The object is flat and sub-circular in plan and decorated on one side with a pattern of raised lines and pellets possibly intended to be a crown or illegible initials.
Lead tokens are difficult to date precisely and could be Medieval to Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD). The majority of lead tokens are thought to date to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, c. 1600-1800 as increasing numbers of dated tokens are found.
The thickness of this particular 'token' (5mm) could indicate use as a weight but the present …

A complete but copper alloy token farthing, issued by Samuel Lvdinton (of the Mercer's Arms), during the mid 17th Century (1660-1683).
Both Townsend (1983, p.40) and Williamson (1889, p461, #155) has identified this token as belonging to a Samuel Ludinton, who was mayor of the City of Lincoln in 1647 and 1660. There was another Samuel Ludinton, probably the son of the former, who held the office of Sheriff in 1681 and Mayor in 1683 (Williamson, 1889, p461). This trade token could therefore date from between 1647 to 1683.

A Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead alloy uniface circular token. The token has a raised design of the initials CB.
Lead tokens are difficult to date precisely and could be Medieval to Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD). The majority of lead tokens are thought to date to the seventeenth century or later, c. 1600-1800, especially those which depict lettering or initials, this token is therefore dated in line with this thinking.

Post Medieval Token: Struck or hammered copper alloy token farthing or halfpenny. The design is too worn to be closely identified but the majority of such trade tokens were issued between 1648-1672 due to a shortage of nationally issued small change. This token appears to show initials on one side, possibly PIH or PIS or PHS arranged in a triangle formation in the centre with a further inscription around the edge of the token. The central design on the opposite side of the token is too worn to be clear, as is the encircling inscription. This token is pierced.

Complete but worn cast lead alloy uniface token of uncertain date. The token is circular in plan and carries a raised design on one side. The design consists of a long cross with a single pellet in each angle.
Lead tokens probably had a variety of uses and were made locally; they are therefore difficult to date precisely and could be Medieval or Post Medieval in date (1250-1800 AD).
Until recently cross and pellet designs were thought to be contemporary with similar Medieval coin designs; however publication of moulds and double faced tokens which combine Post Medieval initial sty…

A complete but worn cast lead token of post Medieval date. The token carries lettering on the front which may be AA, a disjointed W or VV. Lead tokens are very difficult to date precisely but those carrying lettering are usually dated to the post Medieval period with the majority falling into the 17th century.
The precise use of such tokens is unknown and it is likely that they were produced locally and had a variety of uses as tokens, tallies, weights, gaming pieces, etc.
Tokens of this type are dated rather broadly c. AD 1600-1800.
