Penn and Brugmann (2007) Sm2 or Sm3.
Only the headplate and part of the bow has survived. The headplate comprises a trefoil head with three projecting sub-rectangular lobes with semi-circular cut aways at each angle. The bow springs from the headplate; it has a D cross-section and is decorated on the convex side with oblique indentations where the bow meets the headplate, creating a trapezoidal block at the upper portion of the bow. A central raised band extends from the block. The bow terminates with a very worn and broken end. On the reverse of the headplate is the pin lug that is covered in iron corrosion indicating the use of an iron pin, which is now missing. The brooch is very worn and corroded.

The object was originally cross-shaped with four equal arms, however, three terminals have broken off, all of which would have emanated from a domed central boss with a concave reverse. The surviving arm has a D-shaped cross-section, finishing in an expanded lozenge-shaped loop formed around an oval aperture. The loop has a knop at each of its three external points. The boss has a raised collar at two sides. The object has a mid-reddish brown patina.

This design is surrounded by a zig-zag groove that forms further triangles, each with transverse incised lines.

Four arms radiate equidistant from a rectangular central circular block with a drilled circular mounting hole at the centre. Each arm has been waisted with contraction before and then expanding outwards to terminate in a circular die face.
The four motifs on the dies are:
1) A dove in profile
2) Stag or doe facing front
3) Six stars around a central star
4) Heart over crossed arrows
These diverse motifs have a range of religious allegorical representations and are seen on a wide range of other later medieval and post medieval items such as seal matrices (e.g. SUR-C4FD43), tokens (e.g. SUR-12C7A3) and buttons (e.g. SUR-B293B2).

The piece is the form of arcading with a small cherub figure lounging over the top and holding onto a textile piece. The archading is decorated with foliate motif and is triple banded around the curved and longitudinal sides. There are two circule indenatations on the reverse, probably to fix it to another piece. The reverse is flat and it has a lozenge shape with illegible shape/writing.
