Copper alloy buckle. Cast rectangular frame with a square grooved lip projecting at its outer edge and with the rectangular stub of an integrally cast plate on its inner side, bearing vertical grooves. A drilled hole permitted the passage of a pin [lost] and a rivet of diameter 2.2mm and length 4mm passes through the plate to attach it, probably to spur leathers. An incomplete copper-alloy dagger guard (quillon) dating to the medieval period, c.AD 1200-1400. The guard consists of a central block from which two arms project, one to each side and an incomplete hand guard or finger stop projecting from one of the long edges. The central block is a pointed oval in plan with slightly expanded squared-off tips at. A fragment of a copper-alloy buckle of medieval date, c.AD 1250 -1500. All that remains is a decorated portion of the buckle frame. With only the remaining fragment, the buckle shape and strap bar style cannot be determined. The remaining frame is rectangular in section and slightly curves. One end terminates with a worn break across the decorated panel, the other with a worn break after projecting into the buckle edge. An incomplete copper-alloy military belt plate of Roman date, c.AD. 150 – 300. The object comprises two ovate panels joined by a narrowed integral D-shape sectioned shaft. A similar shaft extends from the opposite edge of each panel, one terminating is a transverse ridge, the other in a worn break. The panels have raised edges creating recessed cells which retain blue enamel. The reverse is flat and undecorated. The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. An incomplete copper-alloy dolphin brooch of Roman date, c.AD 55 - 100. Mackreth 2011, Colchester Derivative Hinged (CD H) Type 6b8, plate 53, no.1567. The head of the brooch comprises tubular wings which are undecorated. The axis bar and pin no longer remain. The object consists of a flat sub-trapezoidal plate with a projecting shaft, terminating with a split end joined by a small pin.
