Two pottery rim sherds and seven body sherds from a Bronze Age vessel that might have been used as an urn or a large storage vessel for food, as it would have originally been over 360 mm in diameter. The colour of the fabric is light brown to orange and varies over the interior and exterior surfaces of the sherds. The inclusions in the fabric include large fragments of pale felspars and grey augite, which suggest that the pot was made using gabbroic clay from the area where it was found, which weathers over the gabbro stone. There also appears to be some other material added to the cl…

Pottery body sherd of hard-baked clay, perhaps part of a mould, so that the ceramic has been altered during heating. There are various marks and impressions on the interior of the sherd, but may have been part of the moulded decoration, but the detail is unclear. The fabric is fine with few visible inclusions and is dark grey throughout, where the vessel might have been exposed to naked flames. Bronze Age, c.2100-1150 BC.

Pottery body sherd of admixture fabric, decorated with a rough chevron of imressed rectangles on the exterior of the sherd, suggesting that this could be Trevisker Ware, dating from the Middle Bronze Age. The pottery is orange on the exterior and light brown on the interior with some inclusions which look like pale felspars and mica-schists. Nowakowski (1991) illustrates a similar example from Trethellan, Newquay, on page 115, Fig.46, No.38, which is dated from the Middle Bronze Age, c.1500-1200 BC.

Pottery rim sherd with bevelled everted rim, decorated with fine comb-impressed dashed lines in bands of six, delineated by a plain band between. The core of the sherd has been oxidised to a light brown colour and the exterior and interior surfaces to a more orangey-brown colour. The exterior surface has been sooted and still has carbonised remains extant. The fabric looks, from microscopic investigation, to have mica, white feldspar, quartz sands and killas inclusions, which is typical of the local beaker wares made during the Early Bronze Age in Cornwall. Comparable beaker vessels w…

Pottery rim sherd with a flat, flanged rim and decorated with five vertical thumbnail impressions on the exterior of the body, running along the width of the sherd, between the rim and the shoulder. The surface and core of the sherd have been oxidised to an orangey red colour. The interior surface of the sherd has been wiped, probably before reaching the 'leather-hard' stage while drying, in order to remove surface condensation. The fabric looks, from macroscopic investigation, to have mica, white feldspar, quartz and slate inclusions, which is typical fo…
