A fragment of a copper alloy blade, probably from a sword dating to the late Bronze Age period, c. AD 1000-800 BC. The fragment is from the blade section of the sword and is sub-rectangular in profile and lenticular in section. The fragment narrows slightly in width and thickness from one transverse break to the other. Both breaks are worn preventing a judgment on whether the breaks are deliberate or not. The surface of the fragment is very worn with little of the remaining surface and edges remaining. The fragment has a worn brown and gre…

An incomplete copper alloy late Bronze Age sword hilt probably dating to the Wilburton or Ewart Park metalworking tradition and dating to 1000 - c.800. BC. The terminal is 'fishtailed', and 31.8mm wide, with flared, pointed ends and a small concave depression in the middle. The hilt plate is 19.6mm wide and presents two raised parallel ribs along its length on both faces, with a broad central groove between. The object has broken across the first rivet hole which has a casting seam around the inside edge. The object is heavily abraded and all breaks are patinated.

A fragment of Late Bronze Age cast copper alloy blade/sword dating from c. 1000 to 800 BC. The blade fragment has a surviving length of 45.9mm, with a surviving width of 35.58mm. It is broadly trapezoid in plan and is lenticular in cross-section. The blade edges are heavily eroded leaving no original surface. Both cutting edges are worn and incomplete and the perpendicular edges to these are broken so that the original length of the blade is unknown as well as the position of this fragment along it, though it is likely between the hilt and the middle of the sword a…

Copper alloy possible sword fragment. Cast straight-sided trapezoid object of lentoid or flattened lozenge section, here taken to be the tip of a sword, dagger or rapier, broken at either end. The break at the wider end is relatively recent but the other, nearer the tip of the putative weapon, is ancient. Suggested date: Middle to Late Bronze Age, 1600-800BC Length: 22.9mm, Width: 14.7mm, Thickness: 2.5mm, Weight: 3.01gms

A fragment of a Late Bronze Age copper-alloy sword dating 1000-800 BC. It consists of a fragment of the blade. It is sub-rectangular in plan and lenticular in section. One end contains a fairly recent break, tapering inwards into a fairly old break. The edges are bevelled. The faces of the blade are plain. The fragmentary remains preclude typological designation so it is broadly dated to the Late Bronze Age.

An incomplete copper alloy sword fragment, dating to Late Bronze Age, 1000-800 BC. Cast fragment of a long narrow leaf-shaped blade. A flattened rhomboid section at the narrower end of the fragment and the wider end is rendered lentoid. The mid rib is still visible, with old breaks at either end of the section and the cutting edge is uneven. Measurements: The length is 37.88mm, the width is 24.94mm and the weight is 25.53g. Two fragments of a sword blade, or possibly a dirk or rapier, dating to the Middle to Late Bronze Age period, c. 1200 - 800 BC. The two fragments can be refitted, and the tapering width suggests they belong to the distal end of a blade. The larger fragment is wider and the edges taper gently towards the second fragment. The second smaller fragment is narrower and tapers further still towards the tip of the blade, which is missing. The blade has a lenticular shaped cross-section and a low, broad central ridge. The edges ar…

One of three fragments of a Late Bronze Age copper-alloy leaf-shaped sword. The morphology indicates that the sword is of Ewart Park Type, a widespread type which belongs to the Ewart Park Metalworking Assemblage (c. 1000-800 BC) (Needham 1996; Needham et al. 1997). This is the third fragment, representing the lower blade- other fragments are recorded as NMGW-A49E88 and NMGW-A4A891. The sword is incomplete, missing the terminal end of the hilt and the majority of the mid- and lower blade. There is a clear refit between the lower hilt and upper blade fragments, whilst th…

A fragment of a cast copper-alloy Late Bronze Age sword of the Ewart Park-type metalworking tradition dated c.950 - c.750 cal BC. Only part of the hilt and part of the blade has survived. The hilt has marginal ribs running down its edges and two circular perforations. The hilt expands into the shoulders and blade. Above the filled hole on the grip, it starts thickening in the centre to form the mid-rib, smoothing out along the blade. Above the shoulder the hilt widens in a straight sided ricasso then narrows to the blade. The sword has delamated in some area. Light brownish-…

Copper alloy Bronze Age blade fragment probably from a sword. This has a low oval cross-section with tapered blades on either side. The front and back ends are truncated making it possible that this could have been from around the middle of the sword. There is pitting at one end possibly resulting from high heat rather than corrosion.  The sides of the blade gently narrow from one end at 30mm wide the opposite end at 28mm wide. This artefact dates to the middle to late Bronze Age.

Fragment of the blade, including the pointed tip, of a Late Bronze Age copper-alloy sword of Ewart Park type. Approximately 200mm of its length is extant. From the worn transverse break it tapers convexly in width and apparently uniformly in thickness to the tip. In cross-section it is lenticular: each face has a broad central convexity, flanked on each side by a subtle and fine rib running close to (approximately 4mm) and parallel with the edges. Beyond this it tapers concavely to the relatively sharp edges. It is in fairly fresh condition and has a glossy dark green patina on b…

A fragment of a middle Bronze Age (Taunton/Penard Phase) dirk or rapier in two pieces. Only the inner part of the blade and a section of the butt survive. The blade has a low, rounded, slightly angular mid-section, curving outwards gently into slightly concave edges with no pronounced ridge. This forms a rounded lozenge shape in cross-section. The shoulders are damaged and the original form of the butt is unclear.
