Undatable copper alloy probable casting sprue. It is oval in shape, measuring 37.4x26.6mm and is max.17.7mm thick (at the centre). It weighs 50.14g. The underside is rough and uneven while the opposite surface is rounded and smooth. At the centre, longitudinally, is a 22.5mm long scar, which would presuambly have fed into the mould.

A large lump of copper, it's rounded appearence suggests it has cooled from molton metal in a crucible or other mould. One side is almost flat, the top is domed and the sides rounded, it may originally have been oval as it appears to have been cut on one face, the cut is now worn. It may have been made on site or have been carried here for metal working. It is difficult to give this item an exact date although study of the composition might help, a date of Bronze Age - post-medieval has thus been given although it is likely to sit within the earlier part of this range. It is 38.8mm l…

Copper alloy casting jet with stubs of two runners. The jet is flat topped, roughly circular with a domed lower part. While such jets are commonly the result of socketed axe production in the Late Bronze Age they can also be as late as the ost medieval period. It is 36.0 by 31.2mm and 17.6mm thick excluding the runners, 21.5mm including them; the runners are c.8mm in diameter at the base amd it weighs 69 grams.

A copper-alloy casting sprue of uncertain date. It is circular in shape with a conical profile and slightly concave flat front face. From the back of the sprue extends a sub-triangular prong, a second corresponding prong now missing due to old breaks. The entire object measures 22.37mm in height, 20.52mm in diameter, and weighs 25.02g. This is a sprue resultant from the casting of copper-alloy. It is of uncertain date ranging from the Bronze Age through to Post-Medieval periods, although finds from the same site may indicate a possible Roman date.

It consists of a rough textured, oval sectioned mouth (23x12mm), which narrows to a D-shaped in section stem (being curved to one face), 16x14x6.75mm. This is snapped at its base and a jagged edge is apparent below. To one side of the main trunk is a flat-sectioned projection of metal, c.15x14x1.51mm, with a torn and jagged edge. The curved side of the object is smooth whereas the other side is rough. Measures 26.91x35.46mm.

Copper alloy This object was originally suggested to be a possible Mount, from furniture or a box of Roman date. Peter Reavill kindly offers an alternative identification of the object as a casting well with runners from an episode of metalworking dating from between Later Prehistory (circa 1500 BC) to the end of the Roman period. The object was described as follows: Cast oval plano-convex object with a pair of angled lugs projecting from its upper surface. Other surface irregularities may represent further elements of a decorative scheme, though the abraded and knobbly surface …

The object is 32.8mm long, 20.5mmwide and 17.8mm thick. It weighs 47.71gms. This was part of either a small ingot or a lump of molton copper formed in something like a crucible. A probable Late Bronze Age (1100 BC - 800 BC) fragment of casting sprue, weighing 6.3g. It is oval in cross-section and measures 15.34x10.95 at the wider end, which has a rough surface. The sprue narrows over 14.97mm to an old break 8.64x3.82mm. The sprue forms in the channels of the mould through which molten metal is poured in the process of casting, and which subsequently hardens and is removed. Although the colour of the metal suggests a Bronze Age date, it could conceivably date later.

A fragment of late Bronze Age plate scrap (ingot). C. 1000 - 800 BC. The fragment has a smooth flat inside surface with a slightly curved inside edge on its horizontal plane. It is also slightly curved across the horizontal inside surface making it very slightly curved in shape. Running vertically on its outside surface from the smallest bottom edge to the widest edge, there is a slightly uneven 5.60 mm raised rib decoration that runs the length of the fragment, with a smaller rib (3.22mm) running horizontally across the thicker rib at 5.22 mm from the fractured lea…

1: A bronze (not analysed) two-edged blade fragment, probably from a sword. Severely bent in an arch to about 70 degrees from vertical. Both of the cutting edges are lost due to corrosion but despite the corrosion it can be seen that the blade is slightly waisted longitudinally. It has a bi-convex lenticular cross-section with very slight concave channels. Fine longitudinal sharpening/cleaning striations can also be seen close to the former blade edges. Both of the end breaks are recent, there are no obvious hammer breakage marks and although the bending of the blade is considera…
