A cast copper-alloy casting jet of probabl Late Bronze Age date (1150 Bc-800 BC). This casting jet has a single runner and an uneven, roughly flat surface, at the top. It is sub-circular in plan with a domed lower part. These jets are commonly the result of socketed axe production in the Late Bronze Age. However, they can also be as late as the post-Medieval period. The object has a green patina that has exfoliated in places. 27.0 x 44.7 x 36.1mm. Weight: 130.74g.

The fragment of late Bronze Age metalwork reported here is the second find of such metalwork to have been made after the initial discovery of the dispersed hoard from High Laver. The treasure number for this fragment is 2010.T36. For convenience, the text of the original report on this High Laver hoard is given in the appendix below. It has further details of the hoard, including a bibliography. Description and Condition The fragment weighs 12.02 grammes and is a flat plate measuring 37.8 millimetres by 21.2 millimetres. It is 2.7 millimetres thick, rising to 3.4 millimetres at the…

A probable Late Bronze Age (1100 BC - 800 BC) fragment of casting sprue, weighing 6.3g. It is oval in cross-section and measures 15.34x10.95 at the wider end, which has a rough surface. The sprue narrows over 14.97mm to an old break 8.64x3.82mm. The sprue forms in the channels of the mould through which molten metal is poured in the process of casting, and which subsequently hardens and is removed. Although the colour of the metal suggests a Bronze Age date, it could conceivably date later.

A cast copper alloy casting jet of Late Bronze Age to Modern date (1150 BC – 1900). The object is roughly funnel-shaped and has an irregular shaped head with a rough and uneven surface. At the centre of the underside there is a single sprue (feeder). The end of the feeder, in the form of an old break, is sub-circular in cross-section and as it rises towards the head the shape becomes sub-oval. The piece generally has a rough pitted surface with traces of a mid to dark brown patina. 18.9 x 18.0 x 15.9mm. Weight: 9.06g. It is possible that this casting jet is later than the Bronze Age.

A fragment from a cast copper alloy object of uncertain date. It is flat, sub-rectangular in shape and rectangular in section. On one face are traces of what appears to be a white metal coating, while on the opposite face the object has been left rough and unfinished. It measures 18.63mm in width, 13.31mm in height, 3.99mm in thickness, and weighs 4.43g. This is possibly a fragment from a larger finished object, although it is equally plausible that it is a by-product of metal working. Not enough of the object survives to be certain of its form or function and it could therefore date t…

Probably Late Bronze Age bronze/ copper alloy casting sprue, weighing 28.5g. It is shaped like a funnel and smooth around the edges, while rough on top (at the ‘open’ end). This end measures 26.02x16.86mm. The casting sprue stands 22.52mm with a (old) break at the other end, 17.02x5.76mm. This break is D-shaped in section, as is the trunk of the sprue (which is parallel sided).
