Object type: METAL WORKING DEBRIS
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: North Yorkshire

A cast copper alloy piece of metal working waste. The object is circular in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The outer domed face is rough and pitted. The internal flat face is covered with ridged striations which appear to have occurred when the object was cut during antiquity. The circular edge of the object is undulating. The object has a light green patina and is probably the result of metal working. It possibly dates to the Bronze Age however due to the un-diagnostic qualities of the object it may have been formed any time from the Bronze Age through to the Post-Medieval period.

A cast copper alloy ingot or 'cake' probably dating from the Bronze Age period. The object is sub-oval in plan and sub-rectangular in cross-section. One surface of the object is flat and smooth although pitted. The other faces of the object are irregular in form and with larger pits. The molten copper alloy would have been poured into a mould, and allowed to cool until it was solid. The undulating lower surface represents the formation of air pockets. The colour, texture, shape and formation of the ingot suggests that it may date from the Bronze age period, however without metallurg…

A cast copper alloy ingot or 'cake' possibly dating from the Bronze Age period. The object is irregular in plan and curved in profile with one smooth concave face and a rough uneven outer convex face. The outer face is rough and pitted. The edges of the object are uneven and rough but with an even patina due to breaks during antiquity. The object has a light green patina and is probably the result of metal working. The colour, texture, shape and formation of the ingot suggests that it may date from the Bronze age period, however without metallurgical analysis it is difficult to dat…
