The finder is to be highly commended for ceasing detecting after the discovery of the uppermost two axes, at which point he sought archaeological assistance. The smaller of the two flat axeheads (2018 T617a) is about two thirds the length of the other (2018 T617b). The axehead is sub-triangular in plan, lenticular in section and in profile, 59 mm in length, 30 mm wide at the blade end and 18 mm wide at the butt end, 7 mm thick and weighs 40.75 g.
