A socketed gouge with circular mouth which narrows to a body which is circular in section, and flares widely and flattens to form a deep almost U-shaped scoop at the blade. There does not appear to be any wear and the casting seams although well finished are un-worn. Part of a hoard of eleven implements.

Small fragment from the mouth of a copper-alloy socketed object. The socket is rounded and there is a slight mouth moulding. The fragment is too flimsy to have come from a socketed axe; it is probably from a socketed gouge or a leather worker's knife. There is a medium/dark green/grey patina all over the fragment, including the worn breaks, with frequent small patches of pale green invasive corrosion products. Surviving length 16.5 mm, surviving width 15 mm, maximum thickness thickness (at moulding) 3 mm, weight 2.95g. Late Bronze Age.

Late Bronze Age socketed gouge, probably of Ewart Park (c. 950 - 750 BC) metalworking tradition. The gouge is of circular mouth section and has a low-raised collar, which is very slightly concave and is 10mm deep from the mouth. The casting seams are prominent on both sides and are likely to have been finished by hammering. The sides are straight and diverge slightly at the blade. The socketed gouge dates to the Late Bronze Age, c. 1100-750BC and dates to the Wilburton-Ewart Park metalworking phases (Needham et al. 1997), corresponding to Needham's (1996) Period's 6-7. Cast copper alloy Late Bronze Age socketed gouge, with part of the wooden handle surviving. The gouge itself is worn, possibly from water action, and is incomplete, most of the mouth having broken off. There are a pair of faint incised transverse lines, presumably decoration, just below the mid- way point, around the back of the gouge. Bronze age copper alloy gouge, 55mm long, 14mm wide and 10mm thick. The object is in fairly good condition with a green patina and weighs 12.05 grams. The objects consists of a sub-circular sectioned shaft, which begins with a flattened crescentric section running from the rounded tip. This gradually morphs into a circular section which is marked by a rounded protruding collar about 3mm thick. Below the collar is a fragment of circular sectioned shaft which has broken off.

An incomplete cast copper alloy socketed gouge of Late Bronze Age date (c. 1150 BC – c. 800 BC). Length: 76.2mm; width: 17.0mm and 13,4mm thick. Weight: 38.51g. The gouge is sub-rectangular in plan. It originally had a circular mouth with a diameter of 17.0mm. However, although the diameter can be measured accurately, the mouth is now damaged and incomplete. This damage may be old. An incomplete cast copper alloy gouge dating to the late Bronze Age. The gouge (used as a wood-working tool) is sub-rectangular in plan. The socketed end which is incomplete is oval in cross-section while the incomplete cutting edge is 'C'-shaped in cross-section with an elongated triangular or 'V' shaped groove leading back from it on the upper surface of the gouge. In plan it tapers over the majority of its 84.5mm length but flares out in the final 15mm to form a C-shaped cross-section cutting edge.
