Part of a cast copper alloy, socketed gouge, probably dating from late Bronze Age date, about 1000 - 650 BC. The remaining portion consists of a short length of the socket and the U shaped blade. The interior of the socket is circular and 9.9mm deep; the exterior is sub-rectangular. The blade tapers from the socket to a rounded cutting edge. The gouge is concave on one face and convex on the other. It has a dark green patina and the breaks are very abraded. It is 39.9mm long, 14.1mm wide and 13.9mm thick. It weighs 22.8gm. A copper alloy fragment of a late-Bronze Age (c.1150-c.700 BC) gouge, missing all but its functional tip. Overall, the fragment measures 27.8mm long, 14.4mm wide and 9.9mm thick. It weighs 11.32g. The fragment is sub-rectangular in plan with a rounded end, sub-triangular in profile with a rounded hypotenuse edge, and U-shaped in section. The broken edge has a sub-oval intentation showing that the complete gouge was hollow up to this point.

The metal is of uneven thickness around the mouth. There is one casting seams running down each side. The shaft tapers before flaring towards a semi-circular blade. A complete copper-alloy socketed wood gouge dating to the Ewart Park phase of the Bronze Age, C. BC 1000 to 800. The socketed end of the gouge has a circular section and a diameter of 20.8. There is a collar at the socketed end and the gouge then flattens to a C-shaped section by the end and the length of the furrow is 41.90 mm and the width of the furrow at the tip is 13.57 mm. A gouge of this type would have been used for woodworking and similar examples are known from Dorset (PAS database DOR-FD5EF4) and also as part of a hoard from Cumbria (PAS database LANCUM-6F9525).

The blade is C-shaped in cross-section throughout its length and is semi-circular in cross-section at the break. In plan, each side tapers to a curved cutting edge. An incomplete Bronze Age cast copper-alloy socketed gouge (c. 1150 BC-c. 800 BC). This is the lower part including the cutting edge. It is 'C'-shaped in cross-section and has a pronounced furrow throughout its length on the rear face. In plan, the sides taper inwards from the break at the top to the cutting edge at the bottom.
