Incomplete cast copper alloy socketed gouge, rectangular in plan, lozenge-shaped in profile with a circular socket in section, with faint vertical striations preserved in the groove which are probably remnants of use (Matt Knight pers comm). The circular socketed end is broken and partly missing, with an internal diameter of 13 mm at the broken edge, and the cutting edge is worn, partly through use, with its orginal surface missing. Copper Alloy Late Bronze Age socketed gouge. The gouge has a circular mouth (17mm outside diameter) and single raised flanged collar at the opening. In plan it tapers over the majority of its 84.5mm length but flares out in the final 15mm to form a C-shaped cross-section cutting edge. The cutting edge extends back in a V-shaped flute to restore the full circular section around 12mm short of the mouth of the gouge. A complete copper alloy socketed gouge. The upper part and socket are circualr in cross section. The socket is 15.2 mm in internal diameter and approiimately 50 mm in depth. A Late Bronze Age 1250 BC - 750 BC copper-alloy socketed gouge. This gouge is sub-rectangular in cross-section at the top and 'C'-shaped in cross-section at the bottom. It tapers slightly from the top towards the bottom. The top of the socket has a thickened mouth collar which has a decorative bead beneath it. Two vertical casting seams are present. An incomplete copper alloy socketed gouge, of Late Bronze Age dating (1000 BC to 650 BC). Around 95% of the gouge is present, with the end of the socket missing. The gouge is sub rectangular in shape, with a u shaped groove, that tapers down the length, towards the end to create a C shaped end. A casting seam is present running the length. It measures 60.9 mm in length, 16.3 mm wide, a maximum thickness 14.3 mm, a minimum thinness 7.8 mm. The depth of the socket 33.2 mm. The sides of the gouge are 2.2 mm. It weighs 30.7 g. A fragment of a copper alloy late Bronze Age socketed gouge. Only the tip of the blade end survives. This is crescent-shaped in cross-section, narrowing towards the outer blade end and expanding at the broken inner socket end. There is a circular indendation in the centre of the inner end, which is the remains of the inner end of socket. The surface of the metal is corroded and the break is well worn, but races of dark green patina survive on both faces. The collar moulding expands from 18.1mm in diameter to 20.3mm in diameter (internal diameter 15.1mm) over 13.9mm.
