The object is circular at one end and for three quarters of its length it tapers gradually, becoming crescentic in section with a curved edge. A Late Bronze Age socketed gouge made from cast copper alloy. The gouge is complete, but the surface is in poor condition. Approximately half of the patina remains otherwise the surface is pitted and has areas of corrosion. The patina is a mottled dark green colour. In 1984 a Founders Hoard of late Bronze Age metal work was unearthed. The Hoard consisted of eight objects. Two of the objects join together to form what could be part of a bronze bowl or caldron; however the piece could simply be a fragment of metal working debris. Bronze age copper alloy socketed gouge, 47mm long and 12mm in diameter. The object is in quite poor condition with a damaged upper edge. It has a brown patina and weighs 13.96grams. The object is sub-rectangular in form and sub-circular in section, tapering slightly becoming 2mm narrower at the tip. The Gouge blade is formed of a V shaped recess 29mm long which begins in teh centre of the object at 1.5mm wide, expanding to 10mm wide at the rounded flat tip.

The gouge itself is worn, possibly from water action, and is incomplete, most of the mouth having broken off. Small fragment from the mouth of a copper-alloy socketed object. The socket is rounded and there is a slight mouth moulding. The fragment is too flimsy to have come from a socketed axe; it is probably from a socketed gouge or a leather worker's knife. There is a medium/dark green/grey patina all over the fragment, including the worn breaks, with frequent small patches of pale green invasive corrosion products. Surviving length 16.5 mm, surviving width 15 mm, maximum thickness thickness (at moulding) 3 mm, weight 2.95g. Late Bronze Age.
