Retouched waste flake of Bronze Age date. This flake has been attributed to the Bronze Age as it has apparently been struck from the same nodue of flint as the side scraper ESS-7E6F72; both pieces of flint are of the same colouration, and have the same cortex on part of their surfaces. This waste flake is sub-rectangular in plan with a trapezoid cross section. There is evidence of platform preporation. There are two parallel ridges on the dorsal surfacce, and impact ripples where previous flakes have been removed - however approximately one third of the dorsal surface is covered in a n…

Low quality grey and brown mottled flint or chert, with cortex Flake. Irregular flake with light pressure-flaked retouch along one edge; this retouch is executed on the dorsal or outer side of the flake; conchoidal fractures on the ventral surface may represent post-depositional damage. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2150-1500 BC. Length: 70.87mm, Width: 33.22mm, Thickness: 15.46mm, Weight: 32.87gms.

A collection of 22 flint flakes, from core trimming and / or tool preparation and production. None of these flakes show any sign of reworking (retouching). The flake technology employed suggests a date between the Late Neolithic (c.2500-2100 BC) through into the Bronze Age (c. 2100-800 BC), when generally flint working skills rapidly declined. This assemblage weighs a total of 82.4gms.

Two flint flakes in mid to pale grey flint with white re-formed cortex. 1. Roughly rectangular, crudely struck off a large platform. Bulb of percussion and percussion waves, two parallel arises from previous removals on the slightly concave dorsal face. The original cortex remains down the left edge (of the ventral face). The distal end and right edge have numerous chips but these are not obviously retouch and may be later damage. 43.4mm long, 38.4mm wide, 12.7mm thick and weighs 19.60 grams. 2. Irregular outlined, thinner flake. Prominent bulb of percussion on ventra…

Tertiary flint flake struck off prepared platform, Prominent bulb of percussion on ventral face with bulb scars, prominent arises rom previous removals on dorsal face, damage to left proximal corner (on dorsal). The edges are damaged with modern, unpatinated chips down both sides, one unchipped area has abrupt chipping, usewear or later damage. The flint is mid grey with a white surface patina. It is 49.9mm long, 34.9mm wide and 10.2mm thick; it weighs 16.16 grams. Single pieces of worked flint are hard to date but the crudity suggest a later Neolithic to Iron Age date.

A secondary flake of translucent brown flint. The right dorsal side is pebble cortex. The left margin is discontinuously flaked semi-invasively through incipient blue patina. This indicates that the edgework was put on a scavenged flake a long time after it was removed from the core. Later Bronze Age re-use of Neolithic material is a possible combination.Bond(2004) illustrates Early Iron Age material curated from Neolithic and Bronze Age scatters on page 157, fig.5.139.

Flint flake, triangular in plan and in profile. The proximal end appears snapped on the left edge and retouched in the central section. It appears to be a flake with two faces retouched into a triangular point. It is mid grey with orange, brown and darker grey tones in colour. Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 153, Fig. 5.137, No. 10 which is dated to the Bronze Age period.

Edged flint flake with cortex remaining at distal end. Flake has been snapped or deliberately blunted at proximal; there is retouch on left and right hand edges with a notch at mid left hand margin as viewedfrom dorsal side. Retouch evident on left hand margin as viewed from ventral side, with a slight notch. Retouch at distal end as viewed from ventral side. Clear median ridge on dorsal side. Possibly a potential awl or projectile point. The flint is of a medium brown colour and was likely derived from a local beach pebble. Bond [2004] illustrates a similar example on page 154, f…

Flint flake, oblong in plan and rod shaped in profile. The dorsal side has medial ridging and the right margin is finely serrated. The lower left margin has a retouched notch with corresponding retouchings on the ventral side. There is also gloss in the central area on the ventral side. A soft hammer struck thin flake of dark grey flint with opaque cream inclusions. From a small platform the margins expand in a sinuous way to a straight truncated distal end which looks like a snap. The single dorsal ridge is broadly parallel to the right margin, which has a confusion of internal fractures, perhaps from being close to pebble cortex. The flake shows little sign of use in its time of manufacture; likely the Neolithic, but on the right margin, as seen from the ventral side there is a ragged line of serrated retouch through the incipient pale blue patina.Butler(2005) illus…
