An incomplete cast Bronze Age dirk dating to c.BC 1500-1150. (Burgess and Gerloff’s Group IV). The dirk has a central blade that tapers to a point. It is triangle shaped in plan and lozenge shaped in section. The blade has a central thickening and is broken towards the end of the butt. It is not clear the break is intentional or post depositional damage. The edges of the blade have been dulled and damaged, creating an edge that has become serrated. A copper alloy middle Bronze Age Group II dirk with a low butt (Cats 139-5) (Burgess & Gerloff 1981, 6). The object corresponds to late Arreton to early Taunton range (1600-1350BC). This equates with a latest Early Bronze Age to early Middle Bronze Age date range and the likelihood is an Acton Park I or II currency of 1550-1400 BC. The butt end of the object is damaged and the edge eroded. The butt end measures 48.05mm in width and is 2.50mm thick. Two fragments of a cast dirk or rapier dating to the Middle Bronze Age (c.1500/1400-1150 cal. BC). Descriptive catalogue Copper alloy dagger or rapier fragment. An incomplete cast copper alloy dirk, dating to the Middle Bronze Age, between 1500 – 1150 BC. The artefact is sub-leaf shaped in plan and lozenge shape in cross-section. The object consists of part of the blade and the tang both of which have broken before they terminate. One half of a rivet hole can be seen at the end of the tang. The tang is rectangular in cross-section and flat. Three faint raised ribs can be seen on the blade.
