Opaque mid grey flint, possibly collected from the East Coast, possible debitage. A thick triangular chunk with a powdery possibly marine-derived deposit on one dorsal face interrupted either by short scalar retouch at its end or by battering at that site. The ventral surface is rounded, possibly bulbar, but with further flaking or impact damage. Suggested date: Bronze Age, 2350-800 Height: 49.6mm, Width: 46.8mm, Thickness: 28.6mm, Weight: 49.35gms

A group of shatter debris dating to the early Bronze Age (c. 2200-1000 BC). The group consists of seven fragments of shatter debris, representing secondary and tertiary phases of working. Some pieces present significant cortex areas. All the pieces are made from a mottled dark and light grey flint, similar to the knife recorded under LVPL-FAB232 These objects are part of a collection of flints that have been recovered from three fields over a number of decades. The group includes arrowheads and flakes demonstrating the different phases of flint working. Objects from this gr…

Grey-brown flint with cortex, debitage. An irregular flake from the outer surface of a nodule with a bulbar ventral surface. Possibly formed by frost action in ‘pot lid’ form, but very roughly trimmed with a hard hammer and bearing at least two drafts of angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect. Probably an ephemeral tool knocked out for a single passing use. Suggested date: Bronze Age, 2350-800 BC. Length: 37.6mm, Width: 37.7mm, Thickness: 7.3mm, Weight: 11.65gms

Flint debitage, this is a tertiary blade. There are two one arises on the dorsal and a low bulb of percussion on the ventral. There is damage on both sides which looks to be natural edge damage. The flint is covered in a creamy patina, the damages edges has removed the patina exposing brown flint. Possible Mesolithic to Neolithic date.

Flint debitage from blade production, possibly dating between the Middle to Late Bronze Age (1600-800 B.C.) Flint, mid- to dark-grey, semi-translucent, small amounts of white cortex, medium gloss patina. Sub-rectangular in plan. Secondary working. The distal end terminates with a hinge fracture. The proximal end exhibits a striking platform. The dorsal surface is scarred from previous working. There is a prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral surface suggesting the use of a hard hammer, therefore giving a possible date of Middle to…

A secondary flint flake, 63.1mm in length struck from a dark brown flint. The distal end terminates in a hinge fracture. A long patch of grey brown cortex is retained along one side. The other side feathers to a fine edge and has what appears to be a convex area of abrupt short scaled retouch  at the distal end, suggesting possible casual use as a scraper or notched flake.

A large, worked flake of a dark brown flint. The ventral surface retains a prominent bulbar scar and striking platform demonstrating removal from a core. The edge has possible areas of what may be low angle scaled retouch but has been damaged which makes this unclear. One long edge retains a strip of grey-brown cortex. Possibly a cutting flake or scraper.

Two dark grey flint debitage flakes. Flake one measures 19.98mm in length, 23.71mm in width, 5.06mm in thickness and weighs 2.47g. It is a secondary flake of traslucent flint retaining some white cortex. Flint two measures 28.06mm in length, 21.68 in width, 6.32mm in thickness and weighs 4.21g. It is a tertiary flake of semi-translucent flint. The combined weight of the two flakes is 6.68g.

A flint side scraper probably dating to the Neolithic or Early Bronze Age period c. 4000-1500 BC. The object is worked from a secondary flake that retains a thin crust of white pebble cortex on one edge. It is made of mottled light grey flint with white patches that has a semi-glossy patina. The flake is sub-oval in plan and uneven in cross section. The striking platform survives as does a medium sized bulb of percussion from which conchoidal ripples emanate.  Two negative removal scars from the same direction are present on the dorsal face. There is no sign of retouch.…

Brown flint with cortex, and with a spot of re-formed cortex, debitage. A small thick flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a platform at one end of its bulbar ventral surface – where cortex had re-formed. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one straight edge, suggesting a short period of probably improvised use, perhaps of an older flake. Dark grey-brown flint debitage. A battered ovoid flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. The edges are battered, with parallel scars perhaps indicating trimming carried across the bulb. The lack of patination may hint that the object was subsequently incorporated into a sealed deposit. Grey flint with re-formed cortex spot, debitage. A thin sub-triangular flake with broad flakes struck from its dorsal side leaving a concave rippled surface apt to use as a thumb rest and sharp edges, and with a bulb at one corner of the ventral surface. Patches of misty patina may suggest its subsequent limited exposure to a calcareous environment. Mesolithic to Iron Age dark grey flint tertiary debitage. No retouch, heat effected post working. The thermal shattering may be the result of the more complete piece of stone being used as a 'pot boiler'. These were stones heated on the fire then dropped into liquid to it. The cold fluid often caused the stone to shatter and break. Dates from c10,000 to c400 BC. The length is 20mm, width 16mm, thickness 5mm, and the weight is 1.57g.
