Flint debitage from blade production, possibly dating between the Middle to Late Bronze Age (1600-800 B.C.) Flint, mid- to dark-grey, semi-translucent, small amounts of white cortex, medium gloss patina. Sub-rectangular in plan. Secondary working. The distal end terminates with a hinge fracture. The proximal end exhibits a striking platform. The dorsal surface is scarred from previous working. There is a prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral surface suggesting the use of a hard hammer, therefore giving a possible date of Middle to…

Two dark grey flint debitage flakes. Flake one measures 19.98mm in length, 23.71mm in width, 5.06mm in thickness and weighs 2.47g. It is a secondary flake of traslucent flint retaining some white cortex. Flint two measures 28.06mm in length, 21.68 in width, 6.32mm in thickness and weighs 4.21g. It is a tertiary flake of semi-translucent flint. The combined weight of the two flakes is 6.68g.

Three flakes of Chert debitage, of probable Later Neolithic or Bronze Age date. All three flakes are of a gritty, brown chert, with two being secondary, and the third tertiary. This latter flake has a single much more heavily patinated removal scar, suggesting the reuse of earlier material. All of the flakes exhibit relatively irregular flake-like removals, on one flake (tertiary) clearly struck from multiple directions. Although the nature of the chert ensures that the bulbs of percussion are relatively diffuse, where they survive there is no small 'lip' below the striking platform t…

Two flakes of flint debitage, probably of Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age date, c. 3000-1000 BC. 1. Secondary flake, opaque grey/brown flint. Incomplete, missing its proximal end, lost to a natural break. Two sub-parallel negative removal scars present on dorsal face, one of which hinged. Short, semi-abrupt, sub-parallel retouch on dorsal face at distal end, with potential use related wear along right edge. Further retouch to ventral face, with short, semi-abrupt, scalar retouch in two places along right edge. Length 28.6mm; width 24.6mm; thickness 6.6mm; weight 4.77g. 2. Sec…

A flint flake of probable late Neolithic or Bronze Age date, c. 3000-1000 BC. A tertiary flake of a orange-brown flint patinated pale biege at the surface. At the proximal end a striking platform and (on the ventral face) relatively large bulb of purcussion, with bulbar scar, survive. A number of flake-like removal scars are present on the dorsal face, with one being hinged. At the proximal end of the dorsal face are a series of hinged removals, these break the patination but have started to repatinate, suggesting that they are not recent but are probably post-depositional. There is e…

An incomplete flint blade of probable Prehistoric date. A tertiary blade or blade-like flake of a translucent biege-grey flint with white-grey patination at the proximal end. Sub-parallel removal scars are present on the dorsal face, all seemingly struck from the same direction and the overall flake removal. The blade terminates in a natural break. There are no indications of retouch. Dimensions: length 17.4mm; width 9.5mm; thickness 1.6mm; weight 0.45g. Although worked, a single flake cannot be dated with any degree of certainty and a very general Mesolithic to Bronze Age date …

Two pieces of flint debitage probably dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, c. 4000-800 BC. 1. A fragment of worked flint, probably a piece of a larger core with natural breaks on three sides. The fragment is a secondary flake, with a small c. 15% amount of cortex at one end of the dorsal face; it is made of a coarse, mottled brown flint. The dorsal face exhibits three clear negative removal scars, with one, much smaller, stepped and cutting the previous scars probably being associated with the subsequent damage. Both of the other scars appear to have been struck from the same di…

A collection of two pieces of Bronze Age chert debtage (c. 2350- 800BC) Both pieces are tertiary flakes, as there is no cortex remaining and both show signs of multi-platform working. Flake A has been strongly repatinated by fire, to a creamy white colour , with a crackled appearance. The dorsal face retains evidence of three negative flake scars struck in apposing directions. While the ventral face, retains evidence of at least two if not possibly three striking platforms; due to the extent of re-patination it is impossible to indicate whether this flake has been hard or soft hamm…

30 knapped flint debitage probably dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, c. 2900-1600, based on the fairly crude nature of the flakes as well as the composition of the larger assemblage of which they form a part. Many of the flakes are fragmentary and appear to have been damaged, however all flakes included show at least some indication of being worked. Clear tools, utilised flakes and cores are discussed in separate records, however this group contains a possible scraper. Of the 30 flakes 20 retain at least some cortex on their dorsal face, with six flakes covered byco…

Two knapped flint flakes with small areas of retouch. The crude thick flakes, broader than they are long, suggest a Bronze Age date, 2350-800 BC. 1. Tertiary flake with no cortex. bulb of percussion on ventral face, removal scars on dorsal may suggest multi-platform working. long, parallel, semi-abrupt retouch down one side on the dorsal face.13.9mm by 38.8mm by 8.3mm 8.60g. Mid-brown opaque flint with mottling. 2. Secondary flake with cortext on one edge. Two pieces of flint debitage of probable Late Neolithic to Early bronze Age date (c. 3300-1100 BC). 1. The piece is struck off a secondary flake and retains c. 20% cortex on the dorsal surface. It has three parallel negative flake scars from previous flake removal. The striking platform shows some evidence of platform preparation. The ventral surface has a low, diffuse bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripple marks. The flint is a mottled dark grey colour. The piece measures 31.98mm in length, 16.38mm maximum width, 1.62mm minimum width, is 7.62mm thick and weighs 3.63g. The origin…

Nineteen pieces of secondary and tertiary flint debitage, total weight 83 grams with the smallest weighing 0.3 grams and the largest piece 14.2 grams. The debitage suggests knapping from multi-platform cores. It is mostly downland flint with thick cortex on the secondary pieces. It varies from very translucent pale brown to dark grey with some mottled pieces.
