Mid to late Bronze Age mottled mid to late grey chert burin, possibly also used as a chisel. It is sub square in section and knapped in the crude fashion diagnostic of the later Bronze Age The knapping toward the proximal is more controlled than that of end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age. With the exception of the proximal end, where cortex remains, there are removals to the entire surface. The knapping toward the proximal narrows and shapes the section in a manner that suggests it was originally mounted on the end of a piece of wood or antler. Dating to between c…

Middle Bronze Age to Early Iron Age chert burin. It has been formed on a secondary piece of black chert streaked with grey chert, possibly a worked out core from an earlier period as there is a variation in patination. The retained limestone cortex on the proximal end exhibits a high degree of wear, and there is wear gloss on most of the facial ridges. There are fresher removals to the tool's mesals, three long thin ones defining the longer edge, and the shoulder of the shorter shaped with a single removal on the shorter mesal at its distal end. The longer mesal has very fine, short, …

A flint burin of probable later bronze age date, c. 1600-800 BC. A triangular tertiary flake of grey-brown flint, sub-trapezoidal in cross section and curving slightly ventrally into the distal end. A number of subparallel removal scars are present on the dorsal face, with one struck from a parallel platform to the others and overall flake removal. At the proximal end a striking platform and bulb of percussion survive with bulbar scar. Dimensions: length 36.4mm; width 16.3mm; thickness 6.6mm; weight 4.42g. Given its form, the flake would have been well suited as an engraving too…

Late Neolithic to Early Iron Age chert burin. It has been formed on a secondary piece of black 'Marles' chert, probably a worked out core. The retained limestone cortex on the proximal end exhibits quite a high degree of wear, and there is wear gloss on most of the chert. There is sub-parallel, semi-short, abrupt retouch to the shorter of the tool's mesals. This is probably to make the toll more ergonomic but would also have created a small but functional side scraper. The shoulder of this mesal has been reduced with a series of removals at its distal end. The longer mesal has short, …
